Have You "Cut the Cable" Yet?

Have You "Cut the Cable" Yet?

I have Bright House as our cable provider, and recently we had to put digital adapters on all our TVs (5) in order to continue to watch cable after their digital conversion.  The best part is we also have to pay $2 each for these boxes.

After getting my latest with all these charges it's nearly topping $200 with internet, TV, phone, etc.  I'm just about done.  Obviously internet is a necessity, but after taking a tally of what people actually watch in this house, I'm not seeing much reason to have cable TV at all.

Nearly all the shows people here watch are either available for free online, or through a much cheaper service like Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon.  Add a HD antenna to that and I'm not really sure what we'd be missing out.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has "cut the cable" and any pros and cons you have found.

And yet you're continually crying 'poor'...

I never said I was the one paying the bills. ;)

I live in Czech Republic, so I never really had a cable, but I did not buy a new TV set since the last one broke down some five or six years ago. Never regretted the decision.

I 'cut off the cable' about eight years ago. I also replaced my land line with a cell phone (voice/text only).  I have broad band web service access via PC.  Switch back and forth between Netfilx and Hulu plus, depending on what shows I'm currently following.  I'm patient so I never have subscriptions to both active during same month.  Total package runs about 55/month.  It moves when I move - no disconnect/re-connect fees.  Mobile phone, web, and shows viewed over web = 55.  Whats not to like?

Cut cable six months ago and never looked back. With Netflix and Hulu streaming there's plenty of content (and no commercials on Netflix). After subscription fees we save about $60 Per month. It's been a good deal for us.

I had Charter for phone, internet and TV. Was paying about $180 but when it was time to renew they upped it to about $210 for the exact same thing. I told them if they would make it under $200 I would keep it. They said no and I said goodbye. I still have the 30mb service, though with my modem I get 60-80mb most of the time and my internet phone I now use is only about $9 per month. Another $9 each for Netflix and Hulu+ and we've been quite happy these past 2+ years. In retrospect, I feel almost "dumb" for not doing this a lot sooner!
