The good thing of modern techonology is that we can have more varied styles of graphics/art. I'm not super fan of this kind of pixel art but it has its charm. Plus my old graphic card has no issue with the quality. I don't find difficult to distinguish stuff in the map. And while combat/repairing may be automated, you can pretty much control where to deploy your characters, activate the combat skills when you decide,...
In gameplay, the game is really interesting. What's behind the door? Damn question. Too Easy is good to learn: power up rooms to avoid spawns, reserve food for possible recruits AND healing, don't completely ignore research, you can pause the game once spawns happen to change which rooms have energy, buy from merchants at the end of the floor,... Easy on the other hand, doesn't seem "easy" at all. While I have only tried it twice (of four games so far), the third floor has broken me twice. Only two guys is not enough there but when you lack food to recruit (first try) or simply you don't find anyone to recruit (second try, clearing the whole two firts levels), not much to do. Much like FTL, you can know (some of) the tricks and still not beat it because rogue-like.
The UI is what it is. Being alpha, it lacks options, tooltips... but otherwise, it's relatively easy to use. To understand how some things work without hints, may be tricky but Let's Plays there are more than a few (watched a few minutes of one) and trial and error still works.
