Unique city defenders!

I thought - why city defenders are all the same - just a bunch of peasants? What if Conclaves are garrisoned by mages, Fortresses by mounted knights and Towns just have many peasants?

What if each town (regardless of race) would have one garrisoned henchman or sion with Tactician and Shieldwall traits and with ability Battlecry? Lets call such a unit Garrison commander.

What ideas do you have about this?

I wouldn't put mounted units in fortresses, but just armored units. Conclaves could have a few mages, but I'd still keep some peasants in there. The servants if you wish.

That's certainly an interesting idea.

I'm all for greater diversity of city defenders.  You could even spice up the mid-late game Warfare and Magic tech trees with a handful of new techs which unlock better defenders.

Well you can already build guardian statues and sacrificial altars which add assassin demon guards.

All that is left is the bug/feature where a second (or more) attack on a player/user settlement in the same turn results in almost no defenders.
