I fought two Wildling Shaman armies. The shamans cast summon wildling several times each during both fights, and best I could tell nothing happened.
EDIT: Is it possible that the spell increases the size of an existing stack?
I noticed the same thing!
I think that if you have damaged another group the spell will add a new warrior instead of creating a new group.
The spell summons a new group of wilding riders. It doesn't increase the size of the stack of any previous group of riders.
It wasn't creating any new unit or stack. The Wildling armies had nine units at the start of each battle. I wonder if that caused the spell to fail?
I've had a Dark Wizard with only 1 Unit in his army cast Summon Death Demon and have no result though, so it can't just be that there are too many units in the battle.
Yep, I have had this happen numerous times. The NPC mobs cast a summon spell and there is a sound effect, but no unit appears.
The bug is still the same in the released 1.5
During the beta I also had the same behavior with the wildling hero you can get sometimes.
In each and every battle I was unable to summon wildling riders, very annoying.
I experienced this too in a tough fight when I got ambushed by wildlings following a battle with a harridian, black widows, and those eight legged archers. My army's great wolf (awesome unit!) was down to 3hp when the wildling shaman cast a summon. Usually they put it behind your lines where the squishy troops are and I spent a good few minutes mousing over every square there, paranoid that there was a glitch and that the summoned enemy was invisible or something.
