Crashing problem Fixed

Fix for Crashing problem

I've only owned Fallen Enchantress Legendary Heroes for a couple days now, but I was having consistent crashes or application not responding. I read up on the forums and many others were having a so called Memory Leak problem. I thought I may be experiencing the same thing. I then went into Windows Event Viewer, Windows Logs / Application and found the following error. (windows 7 64bit)

....

BEX is a buffer overflow exception, I've had this happen with a couple different games as of late.

Right click My computer / Properties / Advanced System Settings / Advanced tab of system properties / under Performance click Settings / Click on Data Execution Prevention tab/ Click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Click add and browse to your Elemental: LegendaryHeroes.exe , apply and ok. Relaunch program.

I was getting crashes fairly consistently, after I did the above no crashes all night long. Windows must think its doing something harmful and kills the application. Hope it helps.

Interesting. However, the default on my system is the first option, "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only." So, it wouldn't be on for LegendaryHeroes.exe to begin with.  So, I wonder if your fix is working because DEP is now running for something else? Or maybe Windows considers LegendaryHeroes.exe essential?

Anyway, it's not important as long as it's working!

By selecting the 2nd option you are adding it to an exception list which windows will not enable DEP for this program.

By the way since doing this. I have completed one full game on huge took me forever but ended with a diplomatic victory it was over 200 turns, not a single crash. Before doing this I crashed about 7 times before I gave up and went looking in the Event Viewer for the cause.

A separate issue I was having and I don't know why exactly but upon launching the game my resolutions would default back to 1024x768. It didn't matter if I even edited the prefs.ini. Upon next launch my settings would default back only for the resolution any other changes stayed the same. I thought that was odd so after making the file read only it has no longer changed, and retains my resolution setting.
