The silly questions thread

Ask anything

If you ever thought something was to silly to make a thread about, ask in here instead ;)

Any question goes, even what the meaning of life is, however questions about the game is recommended over off-topic ones.

(I will try to answer stuff to the best of my ability, and if anyone else is obliged, they can chip in ^^)

Can you raze a city when you capture it?  I play defensively.  The one time I ended up invading others, I found myself swamped by unhappiness due to number of cities.

Yes, you can raze any structure in the world; your cities as well as cities that are captured.

I believe that the unrest due to an outside occupying force goes down by a certain percentage each turn. Depending on your strategy, you might want to wait out the occupational unrest to make use of the city (it may have a large number of essence slots).

(please correct if I am wrong, anyone).

What is it about magical weapons that is so great? I have never once used them, but I have seen several people say that's the way to victory to get lightning hammers (I think) or other certain magical gear.

My best guess is that it's because the magical/elemental damage bypasses the defense stat. So the high defense stats you see later on in the game are completely ignored by a portion of your attack. It's what makes magi so deadly: they do the same damage against a 50 defense unit as against a 0 defense unit (if they have the same amount of resistances of course).

In the case of lightning hammers, they are quicker to get than the warhammer, as well as having slightly better attack. However if you are going for the armor tech, you get warhammers on the way, while going for lightning hammers first would delay that. So you sacrifice stuff from either choice. (Magic techs vs Warfare techs mostly)

Also - in FE (not LH), lightning hammers had +1 electric damage per level, instead of a flat bonus like the current ones.  So if you're reading older threads, they may be talking about the previous incarnation of the hammers.
