How to make a righteous war game?

Last time I played the game at ridiculous settings with hope for struggle and war. But at the beginning I managed to make non-aggression pacts and even to demand tributes from 2 of 3 opponents. Though they left me far behind in researched technologies, I was leading in overall rating and was at peace with every Empire. I have chosen Kingdom to prevent AI from making peace with me, but those losers agreed to non-aggression and payed me tribute. Though I had no army and falled behind in research I had no so much cities - 7 against 6, 4, 3 cities of opponents.

As a result all (ALL!) my games result in alliance victory. I always play as Kingdom and my task is graciousness and mercy towards any race. So my problem is in how to play graciously and have a combat game. I don't want to be a traitorous intruder and victory condition "Alliances" should not be switched off.

How to play graciously and have a combat game?

Next time I think that I will play with a team of 2 Kingdoms on Hard level against a team of 3 Empires on Ridiculous level on a small map. I hope that Empires will attack any Kingdom in my team and for a small map there will be a short settling phase. And I'll have to make a map with the scenario builder to ensure all Empires have a good start.

What do you think, will this help? What else you could suggest for a good righteous war-game?

What is the most aggressive Empire nation? Trogs? All of them are militarists and less ready for peace. Or should I create an opponent Empire from a Kingdom race? As I remember Tarths are quite militant. What do you think? Who in your games mostly was an AI aggressor?

Are you sure you're changing the difficulty of the AI, and not just the world? They are different settings. When I play against ridiculous enemies it is impossible to make any kind of treaty because they demand thousands even in the early game.

I don't know how to solve your need, but would offer another perspective on your base-reasoning. Your dilemma seems to be that you both want to play a forgiving/accepting nation, while also getting a combat game.

Would you not think it's a moral reason to free the citizens of the Empire nation? Bring down those who keep slaves and torture pits? End that for those suffering? At the correct time you should deny an Empire-nation non-agression-pacts/alliances to kill their leaders and army. If you still want to use temporary non-agression-pacts, think of them as as more of temporary/technical no-war-pacts (instead of roleplaying we-are-always-peacful-and-love-your-side-agreement).

IMHO the easiest way to get a "righeous war-game" is to change your perspectve. If the AI won't declare war, then you will have to do it.:)

Enemies were customised. I specially made two strong Empire nations and chosen them and Kraxis. For each nation there was the word - Ridiculous. And they researched knowledge very quickly. They  built almost every wonder before I researched them. Before I researched chainmail, I saw trogs in masterwork chainmail with the best shields and maces. In one of my earlier games when AI (Hard) was in about 10 ratings above me, he demanded just 166 guildars for non-aggression pact. That was a scenario I created with one very strong Empire with lots of starting units. But I soon caught him and he even payed me 16 guildars for non-aggression pact.

But they are ALL BAD. Trog nation consists of trogs. They all better want my blood than me to freedom them from themselves. Otherwise, it's nice idea. But when I'm not ready for war I can't help from signing a non-aggression pact. But later, AI just loves me: Warm, Close, Friendly... Is this righteous to attack a friendly AI suddenly?

I guess that defending weaker members of my team is the best way. Though I've never played in teams. Can I make a non-aggression pact with a member of another team, while he is at war with the other member of my team?

You win because you have alliance treatise. Don't make any treatise.

Forgive them for being evil and release them by killing them.
