Shouldn't Inspiration be +1 Mana per Essence?


Currently, Inspiration appears to be incredibly underpowered. Using it on a late-game conclave with maximized education bonuses and no unrest, this grants an insignificant research bonus (about 5%). That just seems bizarre, considering this game attempts to encourage city specialization. Currently, however, I might as well use Inspiration on my Fortresses. +1 research per Essence, should this be deemed to be then too powerful, could at least be made to be costlier to cast.

There is a spell later on in the game that gives the +1 per essence.  Giving it in the early game was rightfully deemed OP.

I think you mean +1 Research per essence.  The spell giving +1 Research per essence spell was removed because people beelined to it and then there was no challenge whatsoever.  The +1 Materials per essence spell Arcane Forge still exists though, because it is not so game breaking.

Inspiration is by no means underpowered and even the +1 research alone is a big thing early in the game since it basically doubles your research output. I would argue it is still the best city spell out of all the ones you can get at the beginning of the game. It is an early game spell and not really meant to be used late in the game, there are others that replace it.

When you have only 1-2 research in the beginning, inspiration is a 100-50% bonus in research. Very useful to jump start your tech game!

OK. Early game I seem to cast growth and hammers more, maybe I'll reconsider.

Pits of Madness is +1 research per essence.   Evil FTW.

It is also -1 Growth and part of Death Magic, so Empire cities using it early won't be growing very fast (since they don't get Sovereign's Call).

Yep, benefits and a small drawback.  You can't give inspiration +1 per essence compared with that
