[Bug 1.30] Cannot load any saved game

Sigh, I'd really like to finish a game. I haven't been able to do so for three weeks. Now, in 1.3, at some point, something gets corrupted. I have asked Steam to validate my files, and it says everything is validated. Nevertheless, I can no longer load games.

The problem is within the save game itself. During save, the xml for the game is saved into the save game. Basically once corrupted, that file is always corrupted. This method is what lets you finish older games even after patches. All the xml the save game needs is already in its file, the only way to use new xml is to start a new game. There is no validation/fixing of save games. Validation only checks the game files themselves, which a save game no longer needs.

To check if you have an actual bug:

Create a new game.

Play a couple turns.

Save game.

Exit.

Load this most recent game.

Hope I didn't make that too confusing.

No, thanks, that helps!
I could actually load a much older save -- it just took 6 minutes. I went afk and cleaned up, was about to use the task manager to shut down because I couldn't get FE to react at all, and suddenly the game loaded. In slow-motion (first a blackish background, then with outlines of the entities, then with color and contrast). Not sure what that means...

I'm getting a similar issue with my new LH 1.30. Played through about 8 hours, when my savegame got corrupted with an "unable to load gamesave because it is incompatible with the current version" message. This hangs the game, forcing me to exit via taskbar or task manager. Is this behavior not a bug then? Starting a new game as Leo describes does just fine, so it's clearly a corrupted savegame. Somehow I managed to get both autosaves, my quicksave, AND my main save in the same game corrupted. debug.err is at http://pastebin.com/ziwH1SMx if that helps. I can attach one of the corrupted saves as well, once I've figured out how in these forums, if necessary. Guess I'll start a new game and save early, often, and in files I don't overwrite...
