Is there any approach to this game that doesn't result in every faction taking turns ripping a chunk out of my ass off? People I have a strong relationship with are "apologetically" declaring war because some "third party" decided they didn't like me.

Anyways. I know how it is posting to game sites, so I expect the usual declarations that I am an idiot and just don't know how to not offend the AI's delicate sensibilities. I'm just posting here in the off chance that someone else is experience the worldwide gangbang and figured out how be besties with at least one person for more than 10 seasons.

You are not an idiot. Currently the AI looks at one thing when deciding whether to attack you or not: your military power. There are some alterations with their character traits and their ideology, but military power is the main point. And even if you have a rather strong military, as long as there is some civ stronger than you the AI will buy the other civs to declare war on you.

Diplomacy is still pretty much in development and it has been acknowledged by the developers that it needs major improvement. It's sceduled for the 1.5 patch.
