[1.3 BETA] No Wandering Monsters & Crippled AI (?)

1. Started a new game with the 1.3 BETA but it's pretty boring because there are no wandering monsters anywhere on the map. They just sit on their spawnpoints and almost never move (onyl if something gets near them).

2. I met 4 AI empires so far. All of them have only one city, while I have 9 already (144 turns; hard game)! Looks like the AI is not building any pioneers.

Yes, the AI suicides pioneers too much. Most of the AI's in my last game had 1 city, and only got more after I cleaned the lairs for them -_- So no they are building pioneers, they are just dying too much ^^ (more monster lair clearing, less AI on AI action plx)

To the wandering monsters, I do not know what is going on with your game, but I have wandering monsters.

Just a followup, the AI had *easy* lairs next to them when I cleaned for them (bandits, darklings etc.) and let them live, while having 7+ stacks on top of each other next to their capital doing nothing. That is just bad AI ;)

I've got wandering monsters as well (I've got monster AI set to Insane).  There should be somewhat less of them, now, though, since you won't have the wild lands armies wandering outside of their lands anymore.

I haven't gotten far enough to see how many cities the AI players are making, yet, though.

I typically play on Expert and have also noticed that the AI has slowed down considerably.  I figure this is just the calm before the storm ;)

Hi,

did some fast tests ... when playing without monsters (setup screen set monsters to none) the AI is expanding fine and founds new cities.

Even with sparse the AI player concentrates on building troops and seems not to build any Pioneers.

Other observations:

- Wraith "Sentinel of Hadug" starts with plate, but wraith never get better armor than leather

- I modded the game to give Pioneers the Stealh Ability ... it works, but moving near a monster they were still attacked

iirc this happened too with a Tarth unit in a previous 1.2 game. Weren't they supposed to be stealthy as race?

  imho Stealth is broken ...

At least the frequent crashes are now with 1.3 gone ...

Pioneers on their own are always attacked if there is a monster next to them.

Stealth only protects against the Monster and Ruffians faction (regular monsters) not Denizens of the Wildlands (Wildlands monsters).  However at one stage it was possible for regular monsters to "accidentally" bump into Tarth units, not sure if that's the case now.

If it was Wildland monsters that attacked your Pioneers, that explains it (no protection from Wildland monsters).  If it wasn't Wildland monsters, then it is a bug, and/or monsters accidentally bumping into your units.  I'm not sure if Stealthy protects Pioneers from Monsters and Ruffians in a non-Stealthy race.

this could explain the strange attack ... iirc the monster simply moved into the unit which looked as if it was attacking

I was not aware that there are two types of monsters :(

I'd assume Monsters = Twisted and Beasts?
Not Men, Ruffians, Darklings, or Wildlings

The monster he refers is the two group of creature factions. There are Monsters and Ruffians and the Denizens of the Wildlands. The Denizens of the Wildands is a faction where they are not repelled by Stealth. The first is not repelled by Stealth but can accidentally attack you if you so happen end up on the same tile.

As to the crippled AI, I've just ran a game and watched the AI. The entire group of 5 AI's settled a city and proceeded to build up troops into that city (never moving them out of the cities). Magnar decided to move troops out of his city only because it was FULL. Also, during the first 50 turns, I didn't observe any pioneer units being built at any of the AI's cities.

I hope this gets addressed soon as it cripples the game for me.  I've only noticed the AI build a new city now when you take their capital whilst the sovereign is off swanning about.

In my current game, the AI players each have multiple cities.
