A very worthwhile game

I have followed this game since its inception. In fact I preordered the first release. Even after the disappointing initial launch (iI decided to wait after all the negative commentary for later updates/releases) I continued to steadIly lurk through the next year for Fallen Enchantress.  This I tried a bit but did not find compelling and was put off by indications the AI was passive/not challenging.  When LE came out I tried a game and really liked the spirit of the world and the now clear design on rpg hero development inside a 'civ' game.  But was still concerned about the AI. I decided to wait for 1.2. I have now played  multiple games (losing ;). ) and would like to give praise::

-- challenging AI -- I got out empired by a rival and when it got far enough ahead it came and took no prisoners. Made me veryhappy :)

--challenging design -- figuring out how to sculpt a particular style of play is very interesting. I am still struggling to figure out a viable strategy for my heavily unarmored faction (the undead oriented lady). Good stuff

--modders take up the slack -- the factions are interesting but I was really glad to see the storm mod with all the non humaN races. Frog boy gets credit for envisioning a very moddible game as a core feature.

-dlcs -- like them so far and look forward to many more. I was glad to be able to hand over some more $$ since up until now I have been given a free ride due to being an original preorder guy.  You'all deserve $$ at this point quite a bit I think

I am impressed how a high quality design and product came out of a very arduous journey. True persistence, true commitment. Heroic even ;) I wish you much further success. This game I now feels stands shoulder to shoulder with AOW and MoM

The sad thing is that i seem to have missed the chance to get the game for free as it seems some people managed to get it for free as i pre ordered the game and at this point they are only giving a discount so i will wait for a larger discount at some point i guess

@gekkostate: I missed that cutoff date by a month, but I don't find it saddening at all.  If you're really curious about LH and you thought the past games showed promise, I certainly recommend getting it sooner than later.  While I buy very few video games these days, very few have I enjoyed in the past few years as much as Legendary Heroes.  A well-made game that has devs actually listening to its consumerbase/fanbase, willing to learn from its mistakes/shortcomings and polish their product into something wonderful -- This is something I almost never see anymore in gaming.  So I'd consider this money well-spent.

Agreed completely with the OP.  I've had a similar experience to your own.  Got E:WoM some months after release -- I appreciated and enjoyed it for what it did well (mostly for its great level of customization) , but found its bugs and other shortcomings overwhelmingly frustrating.  I certainly agree that it's come extremely far, and it's officially a solid game now IMO, fit to compete with anything other game out there.  I only hope they strive to take this series even further in the future -- perhaps add dungeons, sea exploration/warfare, more polish across the board (collision detection in battles (aka obstacles and arrows that don't go through everything)), more in depth diplomacy with a far better dynasty system etc etc.  I could go on and go on.

I agree. This game is at the point where it can become a true classic if they focus on polish and refinement now.  Personally I would like to see even more diversification of races/factions then Children of the Storm brings. I would love to see many distinctive units per a faction as was done in Age of Wonders.

Then simply more monsters and questions and heroes. In short more 'stuff' will keep things fresh.  (p.s. I have quest DLC already).

The people who got LH for free pre-ordered E:WoM. If you fall into that category, send Stardock support an email, I'm sure they'll get it straightened out for you. If you pre-ordered FE, then yeah, a discount is all you have going for you there.

what is E:WoM? and also why the hell do you not get LH for free for pre ordering FE? seriously LH is pretty much a shiny re-release with some new features and stuff and of course it feels like they screwed me over for giving up on the game that had only barely left beta stage and stuff in favor of doing a re-release that says so yeah we kinda screwed up on the first game so why not buy our re-release that mostly does the same exact things with only moderate changes to how heroes work and bam gg

So you didn't like the beta (shocking, beta is beta, do not play beta if you don't like unfinished stuff) didn't play after they patched and fixed the game, and wants a free expansion because it wasn't meeting your expectations the first time you gave up. Then after testing LH you liked it, and feel entitled to a free expansion. Am I right so far?

Okay... We all would like free stuff, but the world doesn't work this way.

Gekko does have a point. Buyers of FE paid $60 for two games, while buyers of Elemental paid $40 for three games.

It's a fact of life that you sometimes buy a product too early (or too late in this case) and miss out on some special deal. You just have to take your losses in that situation. I know I did. But I can understand people who need to vent their frustration.

I understand that too, but why pollute an appreciation thread with it? You can make your own thread for stuff like that.

Incorrect. I paid $70.00 for my E:WoM pre-order. It was $50 for the base and $70 for the Collector's Edition, plus $10 for shipping of retail box, so $80 total. I don't believe pre-order was ever available for $40.

I do believe the rest of your comment (un-quoted) is spot on.

Elemental: War of Magic was the first game set in this universe. It was a poorly received game at launch, thus shortly afterward Brad Wardell (Stardock CEO) promised those who had pre-ordered two free games. And those who bought shortly after release (and thus had a chance to read reviews before purchasing) one free game.
