Are all "resistance" rolls the same?

Not sure what is rolled against what when certain things are resisted. Is it always "spell resistance" vs. "spell mastery"? I am thinking of two types of rolls which confuse me:

1. Elemental-type damage. Are "resistance" rolls here spell resistance vs. spell mastery like standard spells, or does fire resistance or another type of elemental resistance play a role?

2. Effects from special attacks, such as a spider's webbing. I have noticed that particularly strong heroes of mine seem just as likely to be webbed by spiders than weaklings, but maybe it is just my luck, as there is no roll log you can toggle on or off. Is this also pure spell resistance vs. spell mastery? Seems very counter-intuitive, but who knows.

Yes, only spell resist causes spells to be "resisted" (shows in text above character) and only spell mastery helps prevent those resists.

Elemental and physical damage can also be partially mitigated using the stats like "cold resistance", in all those cases it is a percentage of the damage being mitigated. 100 or higher of one of those resistances means you ignore all damage from that type. You can also have negative values, meaning you take more damage from those types.

Let's say you have a firedart spell that can be resisted. First, the game checks spell mastery vs spell resist. The chance for a spell to HIT (not be resisted) is (caster's spell mastery) - (target's spell resist) percent.

Then, if the spell hits, it does a normal damage roll for the amount the spell hits for, and removes a portion equal to (target's fire resistance) percent.

Thank you.

Perhaps at a later point it might be of interest to consider augmenting some sorts of resistance rolls with additional factors, such as strength in order to resist webbing or intelligence to resist beguiling.
