[CRASH] LE has stopped working

I have seen a couple of these around but never any solutions posted for it. I don't pretend to be a computer wizard and I have sent an email to stardock but if anybody has encountered and solved this issue, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You should defintaely post the crash dump files the exact situation how it happened etc..

There is a post here from DerekPaxton explaining how to get those files.

It is not a simple nor a single issue but those stopped working issues are multiple different issue and that data would help find that issue.

The first time I loaded the game, I had that crash.  Then I went and updated my video card drivers.  The second time I loaded the game, I had that crash again.  After that, I have been able to play the game with no crashes...  So, not a lot of help here, but do make sure that you have the most updated video drivers.

I provided them with it, and my display drivers are up to date.

This sucks, I can't play the product I paid for on week two of its release and counting.

Honestly, I would be happy if I could go through a single hour without loading an autosave due to crashes. Constant crashing is the mean reason I don't play more.

It would help if you posted a little information about your PC.

I found in my experience, that may very well be your problem -- autosaves.  Try disabling them.  My game doesn't crash anywhere near as much as it used to after disabling this.  Fortunately for me, I prefer saving manually anyway.

That said, since there are still so many people who have trouble running this game smoothly (especially those who have updated drivers AND solid rigs), I think it would be a *wonderful* idea to have a section of this site (perhaps just one big thread pinned at the top of the support forum) dedicated to listing the most common crashes, what the reasons could be for causing them, and how to potentially fix them.  Because I wouldn't be surprised if there are only a small number significant reasons this is only affecting some people, while others have little to no problems.  As an additional bonus, the other side doesn't have to repeatedly ask to give PC specs, dx dialogs etc.  Meanwhile it's all up there for easy reference.

Sounds like a win-win to me.  Just something to consider.

Fair enough. I've tried a few different things, but autosave doesn't seem to make much difference for me. Letting the computer sit and the screensaver go on almost always kills the game. I have a dual monitor setup with different resolutions on each (don't ask). Disabling the second monitor does tend to help a bit, so I typically do that and run at 1920x1080. Someone else mentioned anti-aliasing somewhere: I do have that disabled.

Processor: i7-2600K CPU @3.40 GHz (4cores, 8 threads). I forget what MB I have, but I think it's an Intel one.

Memory: 6GB

OS: Win8 64-bit

Gfx: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560

Hard Drive: 500GB SSD + 1TB data drive

Virus scanner: McAfee

I'm running on steam, and I have had some flakiness on steam games in general, but FE: LH is definitely my least stable game. With games like The Witcher I can do things like alt-tab around while loading and get fun effects like having no mouse pointer. Also, games like X-Com crash occasionally, but that's once every several days of playing, not several times a day. I don't think my general system stability is the dominating factor here.

If I had to guess it would be Gfx driver, 64-bit win8 flakiness, or multi-threading issues, but I really don't have any deep insight.

Well, I don't know how much this will help you either (maybe it will), but have you tried disabling the screensaver?  Aside from disabling auto-saves, I also found doing ANY sort of switching focus from this game will drastically raise the odds of inevitable crashing.  Using screensavers, alt-tabbing, anti-virus pop-up messages, etc.  Unless you've already tried all this, please do.  I suppose it depends how badly you want it to work. ;)

I admit it's a pain to have to jump through all these hoops just to make this overly-sensitive game run smoothly (and I don't think you should have to with a decent rig like yours either).  My situation is really just a much less severe version of yours; I don't crash nearly as often anymore, but still occasionally -- which is more often than any other game I play.  It's been that way for me since Elemental WoM, as well as FE.  These 3 are the *only* games I've ever had any trouble running smoothly in recent years -- the same 3 games that oddly have the lowest spec requirements when compared to other new games I've installed, all run smoothly without a hitch.

So please, Stardock.  A pinned thread or 'help page' dedicated to known crashes (ones that can't be fixed in a patch), where people can do their own troubleshooting.  List any common reasons/causes for crashes.  Tell us any crashes that you (the devs) have had yourselves, or others we've reported to you, and list solutions that you know have worked.

Please don't get me wrong: LH is a fantastic game -- it's hard to believe much better it became in just a few years.  But sadly, it's apparent that enough people are still having problems to warrant something like this.

Yeah, I turned off anything that actually causes tabs to pop up as that seems to be a common source of problems for a number of games. But there are certainly background tasks running I can try to clean up. I've done enough multi-threaded and gui programming (not a ton, but enough to get the concepts) that I can kind of get a sense how these kinds of things can happen. From a user perspective, though, I still find it very frustrating. I hate to see well-designed and well-thought-out games that just don't work for me.

Fallout 3, for example, had a lot going for it. But after getting caught in situations where I had to be creative about how to exit a room in order not to trigger a known freeze bug or dealing with hourly crashes due to known issues the engine had on 4+ core PCs with race conditions... I just gave up on it, because it was too frustrating to deal with and out of my power to fix.

As a user who's waiting to get a fixed game  - I'm really interested in seeing fixes come out for the numerous crashes which are being reported on a 'semi-regular' basis (yes - I've posted one of them).

I expect that LH is very complex (due to it's design approach) and no doubt whilst many of us might be experiencing CTD's I imagine that the causes are numerous and varied. I've accepted that these things can take time to fix and I trust that Stardock (given their commitment to users) will get around to fixing them. However what I'd really like to see is some communication/feedback and a plan to fix them.

I'd encourage all the folk who are still experiencing these to continue talking about the problems as sometimes its the conversation & online interactions which throw up possible answers - particularly if the technical guys are running out of options and can't root cause the problems.

Just thought I'd add something weird: I think the cause of my particular instability was my keyboard. I had a Logitech G15 keyboard that my wife bought me (with a cool little LED panel and lots of macros). Yesterday, I managed to spill water on it while doing some programming work from home and... zap, useless. I've had to switch to my older wireless Microsoft keyboard. I don't think the game has crashed once after maybe 3 hours of playing this evening.

So score one for FE: LH.

Experience seems to confirm it: with the new keyboard, after a few more games my only crashes are when the screensaver goes on (which still reliably brings the game down).
