Still needed: Very Easy UI fixes

This has been bugging me since Elemental came out, and so I will post it once again here.

Some screens, notably the Ledger (hotkey: "K") will not shut when you hit the hotkey again, nor when you hit escape. In fact, the only way I can get the screen to close is by using the mouse to manually click "cancel" or "done". Can we PLEASE shut screens with escape, or with another hotkey?

Also, some screens, most notably all of the other screen tabs on the ledger screen, are still not accessible with their own hotkeys. Wouldn't it be fairly easy to be able to assign, for instance, the Research screen a hotkey which one can open (and close again) with a hotkey?

Thank you!

Shouldn't be hard, right?

Or is that particularly difficult?

It's not a matter of difficulty, it's a matter of how long it would take to implement it.  I have no doubt that the devs know how to implement it, but they probably have a list of higher-priority issues they'd rather devote the 2 hours of time to.

Which only begs the question why were they so unfocused in their design that even such common standards were simply left out to begin with. Stardock pretty much made their bones with UI and I can never for the life of me figure out why they do it so badly in *all* their games.

I'd also like to see:

- Mouseover of armies on the left column HUD (Empire Tree) displays remaining moves (moves left), not maximum moves

- hotkey for cycling through units with movement remaining (also seems to be a standard in TBS titles)

- hotkey for cycling through champions

- ctrl-# to assign a hotkey to an army or a city, and # centers on that army or city (also pretty standard in strategy titles)

- renaming cities

- configuring hotkeys

I hope all of this isn't asking too much?

Doesn't the tab key already do that?

Just tested, it does. Sorry, I was using "start" and "end" keys, as I did not even know that Tab does that. I didn't see this listed anywhere (including the manual).

I'd love to see an option to 'lock' the camera angle where you last left it.  Essentially, check this option during game setup, and wherever you have set your camera angle is where it will stay if you save and later reload that game.

the default 45 degree double offest isn't particularly helpful in strategic IMHO, although it looks pretty at least.  Also, with the movement weirdness that sometimes happens in tactical, well I often go for an 'slightly skewed overhead' angle, so that hills, etc. don't mess up the mouse pointing.

A 'always top down' option in game setup would also work for me.

Pleeeeeaasse??????

With regard to the camera angle, I too change it frequently to avoid the problem of hills messing up mouse pointing.  The numeric 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys (above the alphabet part of the keyboard) switch to different standard camera angles, perhaps there's one of those that you'll like better.  As far as I know there's no way to lock the camera angle where you left it, that's an interesting idea.

You can already rename cities.  Just hit the Rename button when you've got the city selected.

Also could be a number over the research bar indicating how many turns left till it completes instead of having to open up the research to see this information?

You don't have to open up the research to see turns remaining.  Just mouse-over it.  The tooltip shows how many turns are left.

That said, having the number of turns remaining next to the name of the tech you're researching (like with city production) would be nice, so you could just glance up and see it rather than have to mouse over it.

I would love to cycle through my cities.

And my champions, like someone already mentioned.

If it isn't showing up on your city bar at the bottom left of the screen, click the little arrows to the right of the bar for more options.
