Resoln win on Ridiculous/Ridiculous [VIDEO]

Hi!  Remember me?  I'm the guy who wrote "Expert is too easy ... Ridiculous is too hard".  https://forums.elementalgame.com/444357/page/1/3361520

Well, I finally did it!  And unlike a lot of the posers in this forum who play 30 turns and claim the game is too easy without actually proving it or those who create uber-custom factions and sovereigns to play or those who take the easy way out with a Quests or Spell of Making victory, I did it with a good ol' standard faction domination victory.

Here's how.  I did not have a lot of shards near me so I could not use the Corrupt/Wither combo so I made my sovereign a Summoner.  I used lots of strategic summons early game to make my army, then later when I had the mana I started using tactical summons and ice/fire mages to win battles.  Here are a couple of clips.

Using Summoning spells to slow down the battle

You don't know the power of the Dark Side ...er Wither.

In hindsight, some of the battles getting to this point were more interesting and difficult.  Perhaps, I should try a Let's Play.  Comments are welcome.

Good on you! I'm not sure the Spell of Making or quest are really the "easy way out" though. At some point in my experience you're so dominant you can more or less choose how you want to win. Often I find it easier and quicker killing AIs than doing the quests. Which way is easier depends on the map and on exactly how you play.

I've also been playing with the standard factions. I haven't actually beaten my Ridiculous game yet but this is mainly a question of time, I should finish it this weekend. In terms of strategy it sounds like your approach is similar to mine, i.e. attack with an early stack with non-trained troops (with no gold maintenance), then build up a powerful mage and kill everything.

Congratz!

I do have to agree with merlinme, though: disabling spell of making is probably easier than winning that way, on Ridiculous or Insane. I am not sure if you disabled it. Anyway, that's nitpicking. Quite a feat!

Edit: I am starting a game on Insane/Insane, with Ceresa/Resoln. Wish me luck!

Funny, I posted on your "ridiculous is too hard" thread, with the same problem.

I am currently on turn 390 or so of a ridiculous/ridiculous, and basically playing around with how I want to win. Could have master quested some time ago. Thinking I'll kill the one remaining faction (I killed all the rest) and get a conquest.

Kind of itching to try insane/insane...

Congrats.

I figured out how to properly embed my YouTube videos in the OP... hope that helps.

Congrats!  Now, the next step is to move into insane/insane :)

What I've found so far is that it is very easy with Umber (beastlord sovereign) and Capitar (mancer units have +1 movement, allows for hit and run, and the ability to build to give units the road-building trait).  But it's definitely do-able with every faction (atm, I'm attempting it with Tarth - who are definitely the toughest to do it with - Tarth blood is definitely the worst, Stealth is basically useless, and rebels just reduces their resource production).
