[Suggestion] Teleport Item

It would be very nice if there was an easier way to trade items between heroes. I'm thinking that a mana cost to trade between heroes (maybe more the further away) would be a nice way to do it so that it can't be abused.

yeah that would be very welcome. it's quite tedious to have several armies exploring different regions and of course the mage's army picks up the rare longbow, the defender finds the mage robe and the assassin picks up the tower shield. would be nice if there was an easier way to trade that stuff. meeting somewhere in the middle costs a lot of time and is often not worth it, so the nice items aren't used for a long time (sometimes)

I can't even imagine how much easier it would be to properly equip champions for the AI if this was available. Sounds like a win-win.

Especially since at the moment heroes seem to be at a disadvantage relative to their unit counterparts. Being able to teleport items (even if paying to do so) would definately help bolster up hero competitiveness.

Age of Wonders games allow item teleportation (using mana) as a map option, the further away and more powerful the hero the greater the mana cost.  Not that the system has to be exactly the same though.

I agree with this 100%.  Keeping with the original suggestion, please tell me what you think of this idea: 

 

Instead of an 'item' that allows trading long distances, how about a city building that allows this?

Call it a "Shrine of Teleportation" or something along those lines.  This building could be made available via an advanced/high-level unlock (for sake of balance) on the 'Magic' side of the tech tree.  Once researched, you must build this structure in at least two cities.  Once built, units (or stacks of units) can teleport themselves to any other city this structure is built in (for trading items, or just simply for warping vast distances).  Additionally, it could also function as a trading station, where any units stationed in a city with this building can automatically trade items as if they were standing in the same place, but in fact they're in completely different cities.  Okay... I really, REALLY like this idea now. :P

 

If something like this can't be modded, I truly hope this (or something similar involving teleporting) gets considered for an upcoming patch.  I can't imagine the possibilities that would open up for players and AI opponents alike if they could correctly utilize something like this.  I can even see a potential diplomacy option to allow these buildings to transport units between cities of different factions, once it is proposed via diplomacy and the other side agrees to grant access (once both sides have researched and built them).  It would be more commonly used in magic-heavy factions, which is perfect IMO.  Not to mention it would probably make the game far more enjoyable, and/or potentially challenging.

I like your idea.

But i think there should be 2 ways to teleport items.

One is like Age of Wonder style, item is teleported in an instant but cost mana, the amount of mana depends on hero level, item power/strength and distance.

The other way is to build a Building that will allow some sort of carrier caravan that will allow trading of items without any cost, but it take some turns for the item to arrive to its destination hero. The 2nd way is kinda like Eador Master of Broken World (Storehouse Provincial building that allow hero to access Capital Province inventory items from any province with Storehouse).

I FRIGGING LOVE THE IDEAS IN THIS THREAD !!!

I've been asking for an item vault / item teleport spell since the original Elemental, and believe it's one of the major inconveniences in the game. 

I once got a response from Derek that it would destroy balance (as you can teleport very good items between champions to make them all uber) but this can be mitigated by giving the spell (1) a high mana cost, (2) a cool down period not allowing it to be cast again until X turns have passed

I also LOVE the idea of a "Portal" style building that can be built in different cities and allows heroes to trade items (and perhaps also units) at a certain cost.

Brad and Derek, PLEASE consider these ideas for a future expansion / DLC, or even (if possible) as a new feature in the next Patch!

In the meantime, does anyone know if such a spell or building can be modded? So far I've stuck to small .xml changes such as new items and abilities, but I would be willing to invest the time to create this spell/building with some guidance as to how to begin...
