Constant crashing

Any word on this? It's pretty unplayable for some people, myself included. I crash every 10 minutes or so, regardless of what I'm doing. Crashed trying to combine armies, crashed loading a game, crashed initiating combat, crashed trying to build a building, crashed when I walked away from the computer, etc etc.

Do you have any mods going?  Any modified core files?  Any previously created factions, sovereigns or units?

I crashed everytime I tried to load a game, but knew it was probably because I was mucking around with mods.   In the end I don't think it was the mods, I think it was some custom factions/units I had in relation to the mods.     Cleaned out the custom factions and units (after turning off the damn steam synch - which kept replacing the deleted units/factions/sovs) and worked fine.    My docs\my games\LH - units and races I think.

Played 5+ hours (sheesh) with 1 crash - and crash was at 2gb memory in task manager.   Restarted game and no issues.

Good luck

I haven't edited or modded anything, fresh install from Steam. I have FE installed seperately, but it uses a different install path so the mods there shouldn't matter as far as I know.

Well that sucks.   Have you tried uninstalling, rebooting and re-installing?   Seems weird that you can get into the game - load everything up, play the game for a few minutes and THEN it crashes.   At that point everything should pretty much be loaded.    If it was only off loading save games (like my earlier issue) it stands to reason something in the loading process fails.   If its when doing X, it should be related to X.   Your symptoms seem really random though.

Got any crazy security/virus protection that might be holding up a file as its trying to get loaded?

Any issues playing other games?  Like maybe your hardware is getting flaky?  Overheating Ram or GPU?

Have you checked task manager when playing?  Possibly running out of memory?   I usually seem to be running at a gig to 1.5 gigs of ran for it.  It did crash once when I got up to 2 gigs but that could be unrelated.

Possibly running out of drive space?

Again, seems random that it would be affecting all those different actions.

None of those seem to be the issue. I have a very high end machine. One thing I've done that has helped dramatically is to set the priority for the game to Highest. If I leave it at Normal, it crashes constantly.

I get occasional crashes too, almost always when the next turn is processing. I haven't found any solutions unfortunately.

Strange.  I haven't had any issues with the game--maybe 1 crash over 100 hours of beta testing--and I haven't heard of others having a constant crashing problem.  It sounds like a driver, or in the worst case, hardware issue.  I remember having a similar problem on my last machine with Dragon Age.  It crashed all the time, but other games were generally stable.  I eventually discovered that the problem was in the graphics card--it was essentially a lemon, although it could run most games fairly well.  Replacing the graphics card did the trick.  I'm not suggesting you do that first thing, but if driver updates don't do the trick, it may very well be a faulty piece of hardware.

I highly doubt it is faulty hardware.... I am experiencing the exact same issue, the game crashes every 10 minutes or so and it is very annoying. No mods, my drivers are up to date, nothing that I can tell that would make it continually CTD at random times.

Normal FE played fine, but LH is unplayable to me like this.

We do have crash fixes coming in for our most common crashes.  But it's hard to tell if that's what you are running into or not.  If you could provide a debug.err or a crashdump file we could check it out in more detail.

I would be happy to! I can't link Dropbox here for some reason, so should I paste the log file or email it to you guys?

Thanks!

I have had the same issue.

2 action items I have found that limit crashes from 1 per 5 minutes avg. to 1 every 3 hours or so (memory leak being the chief suspect):

1) Disabled antialiasing.  That had the greatest effect.

2) I use Norton for Antivirus protection.  It seemed that when it would do pulse updates, FE:LH would hang.  I tested it 5 times and proved (to myself) that this was an actual effect.  It doesn't happen with the original FE, so I can't offer a reason.  Putting Norton on Silent Mode eliminated those hangs/freezes.

Thanks gwn43, I will try that. Love FE and am really excited to play LH, just not when it keeps crashing

I'm in love with your machine. That's a monster.

Tell you what, if you send me your machine, I promise I will take a long in-depth look at the problem. I shall test every game I have with it thoroughly and do a deep dive on what the issue is.

The one thing that strikes me as unusual is you have dual GTX cards in there.  Since the game is crashing "all the time" for those people, I wonder if there is a common hardware link.

yeah got the same Problem. Sometimes when i just finish some tasks => improve my cities, or look around my system goes "ups FE:LH doesnt react anymore" wanna close :/

You could be on to something here. I have a GTX 590 which essentially works the same as a dual card setup. Nvidia SLI doesn't play nice with a lot of software it seems. I just emailed support a bunch of my crash info to help you try to nail this down.

I was crashing every 10 minutes too, after installing 1.1 beta patch on steam crashes are gone, last night played for 2.5 hours without one. All mods out there i play Children of Storm, Heroic Pursuits and all of Parrothmath`s are working without problems

Not sure if this has been mentioned here yet, but, for me the crashes have pretty much stopped once I switched Anti-Aliasing from 4x to OFF.

I used to get crashes pretty frequently once I got into the later part of the game, but, after reading somewhere on here about AA causing the problem I turned it off and it has worked marvelously.

Hopefully this is fixed at some point because it certainly does look nicer with 4x AA, but, for now I'll live without it so I can play the game. Because with it set to 4x the mid to late game just became a huge pain with frequent crashes regardless of what I did.

I just had my game crash and noticed that it was at the same time that Steam wanted to synchronize.  Wonderful.
