[LH][.90] Campaign Bugs and Impressions

Bugs

-I destroyed the Yithril cities to the west but the mission didn't update.

-Allied AIs offer me tribute.

-Yithril told me to attack Krax

AI

-Tarth not settling more then 1 city.

-AI horrible at prioritizing improvement. It should build production and unrest improvements first, but when I conquer their cities it never has any.

Impressions

-The Yithril base in the west could really use a champion. It would also be cool if he talked to you a bit. Right now the enemy is too faceless.

-If the scenario log not updating after defeating the Trogs in the west isn't a bug then it should be. Without a direct enemy or even goal the game gets really boring. The start is fun but it's fairly easy to beat that one Yithril base and then it's a long walk to the eastern continent. The scenario log should always have something for you to do. Spawn a Quendar army, Urxen migration, unleash the undead, anything.

"-Yithril told me to attack Krax"

Empires are always jealous of each other. And Krax never holds back from throwing acid remarks towards Yithril "Yo Vega, still having problems holding a Bow? It's not so complicated, even Magnar's slaves can do it.". So Vega decided to force your hand to attack Krax. He also tried with your allies but they don't really take him seriously since he can't read :)

Tarth being a terrible faction shows ... again.

Confirmed. Tarth only had one city in my game as well.

In my game Tarth has 7 cities and going for 8 shortly. They are also most powerful faction (it's early game stage, hard AI / world, medium map everything normal setting).

I'm playing lord Relias and I barely manage to keep 2-3 faction power points above krax and lord vega (we're all hovering in the 32-35 area) while Tarth is already at 78 FP. Have yet to find Procipinee curious how they do.

BTW Tarth is already demanding tribute left and right and hates everyone else :) Pretty untypical for a Kingdom eh :)

EDIT: NVM missed the Campaign part, guess I need some sleep :) My game is a normal game not the scenario, so ignore that :)

Tarth is intended to be the weakest faction in the campaign, she is set to use a lower AI difficulty level than anyone else.  I don't want her spreading and taking the players starting spots.  And I don't want the player to be able to sit back and allow his AI allies to win the war without him.

It's not an AI issue.  The question is, would it be more fun if Tarth was spreading out faster?  Would it be more fun if Tarth was providing more help in the war?  (Carrodus is also gimped and intended to crumble if the player doesn't help out)

If the scenario is too hard I could increase the AI level of Irane and Carrodus, but I'm more likely to give boosts to the player (like having Procipinee give those 3 free techs to the player).  It is your war to win or lose.

Plus, the Lady Irane's story background suggests she is not a very good civil leader, she tends to do what she wants and ignores the needs of her people. Part of the reasons why people are reluctant to follow her. Good to know that the AI is specifically set that way.

Then what is the point of having Tarth in this scenario?

In mine as well they has one city.

Could there be some way to give cities back to your allies?

I arrived about 2 turns to late to save Carrodus (getting him as a free vasall was pretty cool though, especially since he comes with some lovely level 3 administrator), and its really hard getting anything usefull out of the three cities (one of these is, for some reason, a level 2 village) he settled.

Started a new game to see if my scenario log would update after defeating the western Trogs. No such luck. I updated the original post to include some impressions. I have to say I really enjoyed the first part of the campaign. However it got boring after while when I had no real direct goals except to wipe out the enemies that were actually on another continent. I was reaching the end of the military tech tree and I still hadn't managed to really fight anyone. The enemy AIs don't seem to be that aggressive as I had to go to them.

yeah i noticed that too. i guess they would be more aggressive on higher difficulty? having a difficulty selection would be useful. it's a bit hilarious when a procipinee dialog pops up and she says something like "their endless waves will never stop" - actually, up to that point i saw like one army of 4 slave units and the western trog enclave, and that's about it.

though i guess i should add that i usually play a bit higher levels, so if the aggressiveness scales with level, that's fine. around turn 150 i was pretty much done with the tech tree and started invading them since noone made a serious attempt to invade us. a newer player might be overwhelmed when they send wave after wave of ice mages and juggernauts at that point :)

btw. i like the relatively scarce resources on that map. makes iron, crystal and horses feel more important when you can only build maybe 1-2 units of armored knights or mages and have to rely much more on basic foot soldiers and archers.

Hm interesting. Tarth is set to be bad. Okay. (Irane does give you a good bow when you enter her territory - I liked that.)

I found that Yithril was spamming Wither and Antipathy leftand right every 3 turns when I really wasn't going to enter their territory.

Also I noticed an EPIC ranked army of 5 juggernauts steamrolling carrodus, but then they vanished and i could retake that city he lost easily. Do not know where they are.

Also is it intented that Yithril is running rampant if I do not crush them very very early?

yeah i wrote a comment on the juggs in the 0.91 change log thread, too. imo, the scenario would be better if the juggs were just not buildable for yithril. their faction power is totally inflated by the juggernauts. after defeating all 4 empire factions, i realized that yithril only had 3 cities on the eastern continent (and the western enclave with 2 cities, which you can/should take out early). magnar had about a dozen cities, kraxis and resoln had about 6-8 each. yet yithril with his 3 cities had more faction power than the other 3 combined ?! after destroying two stacks of 8 juggernauts each, his power dropped from ~400 to ~230 (and further when i killed the other two similar juggernaut stacks later on). i don't think that the game should throw stacks of 8 juggernauts at the player. not when all the other armies they send at you are an order of magnitude easier to defeat. it would be ok if there were a difficulty level selection at the start - for all i care, throw waves of juggernauts at me if i pick "challenging" or higher, but don't frustrate casual players on the normal difficulty. just my opinion, though.

Couldn't agree more with Azunai_ here.
