The Plague?

So I'm playing my game and I get this message that my city has contracted the plague. There are some options and I go with cure the plague. A spell is then given to me that I need 500 mana to cast (shoot I only have 300).

The game tells me my city will lose 50% growth until I cast the spell. I might be losing 50% growth but there is no icon or anything saying the city has the plague.

OK fine, I save up 500 mana and when I get it I cast the plague spell. But the animation makes it look like it was an area effect spell and I did not have to indicate which city to cast it on. My hero was nowhere near the city with the plague. The problem is that since there never was any indication of the plague in my city and I did not get any message saying "good job!" how am I supposed to know if the city still has the plague?

A plague is a terrible terrible thing.  But that's not what it said... it clearly said, "To Blaaaave" and as we all to blave know means "To Bluff".

Mine got the Tarthian strain of the Trog warts.

Trog warts would make a good champion injury:

"-3 to relations with other factions"

I thought Trogwarts was the school Harry Potter attended?

The curse is supposed to be on your capital.  If you look at your capital cities details and hover over growth it would have shown the penalty fro the plaque before you cured it and if you check it now it should not be there.   I do agree with you that is would be nice if it was more obvious.  :)

Hover over the growth indicator at the bottom of the screen when you've selected a city, or in any city detail screen. You'll see a gold spider-web like icon and -50%

It's a faction wide effect so you don't have to target anything, and all your cities suffer -50% growth while the plague is still uncured.

Do you get a reward for spending the 500 mana to cure it? I always just take the -20 pop option since it tends to hit me early game when I have no chance of getting that much mana.

I cured it, and got a lot of fame. Can't remember how much, but it bumped me up to the next champion.

If you pick the first option to burn the corpses / infected ones you don't get a quest follow up, as for option b and c.
