word.
Considering the release is scheduled in two weeks I am doubtful that we'll see another beta at this point. There isn't time to prepare the release, perform the release, collect feedback, make the required changes, and properly test the new program.
Swami says the next release notes you read will be for the May 22 release.
Is a bit strange to move from 0.87 to release. Isn't it?
Yep.
Yep, not even Stardock is immune to the curse of releasing things early to patch up later. ![]()
But, but. Isn't that what they done with the first elemental? I believe that things didn't end well on that occasion.
That's not the plan, right guys...
Right?.....
I mean, we have time for at least another patch before feature lockdown...
I would even go as far as saying it's been a plague for them! One that there is no immunity for. I would even argue FE standalone isn't even a finished product. To me it's still pretty buggy/unpolished and pretty much unplayable. LH isn't just an expansion but really just Stardock finishing up FE.
This
Almost every wildland; the big FE feature, is still buggy.
^ how so? ^
I think the balance is just about there and if they turned all their attention to fixing bugs, exploits, and longstanding issues like hero XP and road-building we'd have an amazing game.
I largely agree Brainjuggler but there is more to fixing the bugs and other issues than just a few weeks work. Stardock don't seem to regard it as a priority. I don't know why, I don't pretend to understand it, but I do live in hope they will eventually realise that the WoM/FE/LH is really getting there BUT needs some serious polish to deliver on its potential. And by serious I mean several months of full on bug fixing, UI improvements, testing, more bug fixing, a bit of balancing, more testing, etc.
I would also prefer for more time for bug fixing and polishing.
However, there are factors in the game business that I am only vaguely aware of that dictate the timing of releases (for example, I would guess that it is not a good idea for an indie game maker like Stardock to release a game during the same week that some other major release is happening). Brad has been in the business for a long time, and I'm sure he has good reasons for timing the release when he has.
Additionally, while I would like to see LH be as close to perfect as it could be, it already compares very favorably to other games of my experience. Skrim, for example while released quite some time ago and with several released patches, still crashes on me regularly, and requires numerous "unofficial patches" to fix problems the developers haven't seen fit to address. LH hasn't crashed on me for several beta releases now, and Stardock has an excellent reputation for fixing bugs post release.
I'm hopeful that LH will hit one more public beta prior to release since there are still 2 weeks yet. Derek went through a flurry of patching/fixing a few iterations ago, which was awesome. Would love to see that again as people (myself included) continue to find some additional bugs, crashes, and balancing that would really help a 1.0 release.
Even if a public beta doesn't happen prior to release, I'm confident SD will keep their awesome work up that they've started. Even if 0 new features were added, fixing the things identified here would make the game very enjoyable.
It happened! A .90 update coming:
Well kiss my gritz. I am still a little skeptical that the timing is going to work. The traditional thursday night release gives them three business days to address bugs, do QA, and kick the thing out the door for the 22nd. Quite the high-wire act.
Cool!
In my opinion a 0.9 Version is still not the real game. Should have called it "Final Version" and promised to fix and adjust everything.
Well that's obviously not going to happen.
