Magic shards and the summoned creatures

Or better said how do they work?

Howdy, so far I have mainly played with Ceresa / Resoln as I like their darker / misty nature.

Everytime I upgraded shrines, I was feed various types of elemental creatures (each of a specific element depending on type of shards).

Recently am trying to play with Igraine, and despite I am in late game, with fully upgraded various shards, I never received a single elemental unit from them. Then again I have not a single spellcaster specialized hero / champion. All are Assassins / Warriors / Commanders / Defenders.

So my question is:

Are the spawn of elemental units fixed for specific factions, linked to having a summoner Sovereign, or you need a Spellcaster hero / champion with a specialization in summons in order to have them spawn from your shrines?

Thanks!

Summoned creatures from shards are only available to factions with the "Binding" trait. As Ceresa / Resoln is the only premade faction with the trait, they are the only one to summon creatures from shards. You could create a custom faction with the trait yourself though.

Ah interesting. Thanks for reply.

This explains why is so easy to expand quick with Resoln, since you get loads of early-mid game free units which are either very tanky, or deal a lot of damage.

So you can focus on spells / culture instead of warfare and still have a potent army.

My only problem with them is that you want to turn all your shards to death shards, but the Cyndrum demon is the worst out of the bunch :/

Why would you want to turn them all into death shards?

Only few spells benefit from more death shards. And you will still use other elements (even if not on your Sovereign but on champions). Variety is better in all cases than stacking 1 thing and one thing only :)

Then again, it's a matter of taste if you want to transform them all or not :D
