question about the numbers one building screen

different colors, signifance.

I am confused about some of the 'bonuses' listed on the settlement - build screen.  Some give unrest reductions, some give bonuses to production, research, or money.  Some are global -applying to all settlements, some affect only the local settlement.  OK.  The display always shows two numbers separated by a right pointing arrow.  Now, what is the significance of the colors the numbers are in?  If the numbers on both sides of the arrow are the same, does that mean building that improvement won't increase that stat?  I can't find a description of this.  Might some kind soul that has figured this out explain it to me, and others ... ...  Thx.

Yes,  when it has an arrow saying something like "Zone of Control +1 --> +1", all it's saying is that you won't *lose* your zone of control bonus by upgrading the building to the next tier. You don't gain ZoC from building it, but your city's ZoC doesn't decrease either.

For some reason, numbers are always in green, even if they don't increase the value. The only time they are in red are when they *decrease* a value, e.g. Black Market raising unrest.

Hope that helps.

Yes, does help.   So when it says food +20 -> +20  (yellow or green) it means this improvement won't add 20 food?

End of ElanaAhova's quote

Yes, it is showing where the bonus is currently, and where it will move to. Thus, in this case no improvement.

Thanks all, seems I have been building lots of useless buildings.  SO the global improvements don't stack, either.  One butcher is all you need build, yes?

I was under the impression all the faction food bonuses stacked, but never looked.  Silly if not.

That's why I thought it was good to have 2-3 towns per fortress.   Really think they do stack...

The factionwide food bonuses do stack and factionwide bonuses do stack as well.

yes, Parrottmath, I checked, and they do stack.  Yea.  Wish someone with knowledge of the design would tell us why some of these numbers are green, and some are yellow.  yellow = caution... but caution of what?

I have never seen yellow numbers. I've only seen green signifying an increase and red signifying a decrease.

There are no useless buildings in this game, because they don't cost maintenance and only very rarely some resources, the only limiting factor is production time and tech/city level. There are very few buildings (black market for example) that actually increase a certain aspect of the city while at the same time decreasing another one, rendering them useless in certain situations. Just keep in mind that almost all improvements are part of a mini production tree and when you build the next improvement it is basically the next stage in the tree.

If the numbers in front of and behind the arrow stay the same, it indicates that the building you are upgrading from already increased that number and the one you want to build does not change it. It increases another aspect of the city and unlocks the next stage in the mini tree.
