0.80 - main hero army keeps wandering off

Hi all,

I have an annoying bug in 0.80 that I haven't read about yet. In my current game using Umber I cannot keep my main hero set to a certain task. I can click on a distant destination and a turn later I will find he is off with his army in a completely random direction. This behaviour began to occur a few hours into the game and now it has made it almost unplayable.

Has any one else seen this behaviour? I have never uploaded a saved game but I could if it helps.

armies changing direction randomly is usually caused by the "explore" command. i think there's also a keyboard shortcut that sets units/armies to explore mode -maybe you pressed that button by accident (i think it's the "X" key, but not really sure).

I would have to check - I never use explore because scouts tend to just approach the first monster and get eaten.

If explore is set then it is not obvious that the unit is in explore mode. Also if a unit is in explore more surely manually setting a destination would untoggle the explore behaviour?

I would think the same thing. I made mention of this and it is on their list of things to fix. (That is a indicator light saying the unit is on explore mode)

As many threads as there are about this problem, I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed yet, either through canceling Explore on manual movement, highlighting the Explore button when it's on, or removing the useless Explore feature altogether.

There are a lot of things that need to be fixed... this is not a high priority item. Game crashing (that's a biggie), getting shadows to work the way they want (that's another biggie)... I'm not sure they have enough people on this project at the moment, given all their other projects they have going, but I'm not there to say one way or the other.

In my case it does appear the army was in explore mode. However, I cannot see any indication that it is switched on, or off.I would have thought this would be a 1 hour fix.

Several years and no fix.

It's so easy to fix.  Get rid of the Explore button

I agree, it's not a useful tool in this game with the depth of danger out there.

yea, there is a ticket in to get this fixed but other things have higher priority at the moment... Thanks for the report

Maybe they're working on adding in waypoints so we can manually adjust the areas where exploration should occur? That would seem like a good way to get rid of it.

I second this motion.  Explore and it's bloody button, are a pain in the index finger.

There. It's been said.

Let's not continue to harp about these types of bugs that are obviously in the queue or SD will start to follow these threads, and thus the communities support, less.

I personally never have and never will use the explore button, so it would be no skin off my nose if the fix to this was to simply remove its existance.

(However I also think that exploring with scouts is useless cause heroes can accomlish that task so much better....but that's another topic).
