The water from the lake disappeared

Tech tree display problems have been described in several threads (including this one, where I gave steps to reproduce the problem), and the most common cause is loading a game from within a game (which includes hitting control-N to get a new map at start).  There are numerous bugs in the game because it doesn't clean up properly when you load a game.

Could that be what you did?
