Army's go walk-about.

Nearly gave up playing when I repeatedly had my army's get to their destination only to turn around and go of in some random direction on their own.

The only solution seems to be to spam the explore button.  Very annoying bug.

They must be on explore mode.  You should just be able to select the army and click Explore once to turn it off.  Really there should be an indicator if an army is on explore mode.

Yeah, I done this, but later, the army would randomly take itself back on a walk-about.  It's like 'explore' re-activates itself after being used.  It's just something that the devs could do with looking at.

There may be a hotkey for it you could be accidentally pressing. I've never had them go on explore on their own like that. Honestly it's a horribly useless button and if they can't figure out how to make the button highlight when it's on or something they might as well get rid of it to stop people from accidentally hitting it. Long ago in another thread somebody called it the button you hit to tell your unit to go off and die somewhere, because honestly they last like 3 turns on explore before being turned to paste by a dragon or something. Or they could make it a Tarth racial. :|

I figured it out when it happened to me.  It's the X button.  In city view it razes a city, but when you have troops selected, it puts them in explore mode.

I agree there should be an indication that explore is on.

I have a problem that half my "explore" units don't automate.

I wish there were a "force automated troop movement" button.

Maybe there is and I don't know about it.

Thanks.  I will look into it because it is still happening to me,  and it's really annoying.

Considering the amount of hazards a unit could auto-walk into, and that they have no problem with walking right up to a monster 100x more powerful than they are, I think the Explore option should simply be removed from the game.

Yes.  I mean does anyone ever use the explore function?  Yes the AI does, but nothing seems to bother the AI, like it has really bad BO or something.

I did use the explore my very first few games of FE, but I soon learned it was guaranteed suicide and have never used it since.

Couldn't they just alter the code so that auto-exporing units avoid monsters?

Just out of curiosity I set up the best scout units I could last game, with a mount, the scout trait, and stealth, then put them on explore. They lasted like 10 turns before being munched on instead of 3. One them though went straight into a corner and started spitting out explore errors at me every turn. Worth a laugh at least.
