[Bug] AI Builds up to 10 Guardian Idols and city defender units may spawn off grid

Title says it all. Spawn many guardian idols and some units spawn off the grid and can only be killed with magic or arrows, and do not fight back unless they possess ranged abilities.

If anyone has this happen in .75 please save your debug.err, we have put in some new debug code to try and catch what's going on but haven't been able to reproduce it in house

Don't know about multiple guardian statues.  However, the units spawning on the tactical screen, outside the map happens to both sides, when the unit count seems to be above c24? units on the side.  Ranged/magics do work to/from the offsides units.  Units offsides cannot move.  One observation, this does not crash the game, but does, as another poster noted, sometimes slow things down to the point where using auto-resolve is necessary. I don't know what happens if all the remaining units are pure melee (no ranged, no magics that damage opponents hit points) remain on the map.  The opposing sides can't affect one another on the tac map.  Does auto resolve get around this?

 

How do I do the debugg.err output?

I've had this happen with catapults twice in 0.51 game (reproducible). If I ran into it again in 0.75 I'll provide save game and debugg.err.

your debug.err should be in C:\Users\tsarnelle\Documents\My Games\LegendaryHeroes

 

It shouldn't be possible for you to have a fight where there are that many units on each side... the real bug is whatever is causing these massive battles (it seems to be an excess of city defenders)

I have a game now where the AI's capital went fortress with the watchtower addon and when I scout it, the city has 11 catapults in addition to other city defense. The units don't spawn until I attack so I can't use strategic spells to get rid of them. That's gonna be a rough fight.

 

Also there was a Resoln city that for some reason had 17 assassin demons in with the city defense. I backed off for a few turns and the next time I checked they only had one, at which point I charged in.

 

Glad to know this is a bug. I'll try to dig-up the debug file.

yea, if you attack the city (or anyone attacks the city) then the number of defenders will go back to what it SHOULD have been after the fight... so for now you could attack it with a single militia as a work around to clear it up. We are working on a real fix for it but it's been hard to figure out where it's going wrong.

The specific situation where I ran into 10 or so catapults was when I attacked Kraxis capitol. It may help if you keep a close eye on them, at least until someone provides reliable save to reproduce.

I really get an urge to do a wallbang, or at least a deskbang for not keeping my save when I ran into this.

In 0.51 this was happening to me in every game in every city. In 0.75 I haven't seen it at all. It's very strange.

I... think I've seen this in .75, but I don't remember. I'll have to wardec some more AIs and try to remember to make save files.

I've also had this happen while fighting Morian, the Ruin of Summer. One battle instance against him spawned on a rather narrow map, putting him wayyy off grid, because his army of minions took up all the available space. I don't remember if that was in .51 or .75...

Did not have excessive Guardian Idols, *did* have a unit outside the normal battle map... and a melee champion with no ranged magic...
