[suggestion] Created Unit Bonuses for pre-existing unit like in Fall from Heaven

I remember when in Fall from Heaven cities got able to give units build there additionnal promotions based on special buildings or ressources available, like the "<material> weapons" promotion.

The problem with those promotions was that they easily made existing units sort of obsolete once the new promotion became available, forcing the player to build his army again if he wanted to get the new promotion.

This was solved in FfH by having any unit moving into a city automatically get any of the available upgrades/promotions that this city would give to newly built units there.

I have been hoping for something like that to be implemented in Elemental for a long time, and with Derek managing the game now, I was thinking that it would be fast to come, but unless I missed it in a patch this is stilll not the case, so please Derek, could we get the same in Legendary Heroes ?

:pout:

If a free upgrade just by moving on the city is too much, needing to take city time to upgrade the units, or needing to pay for the upgrade (an option that could get available when stationned in the city of course) could be alternate solution.

Thanks for reading my post.

Edit: also, as suggested by thadianaphena, this would also prevent some buildings options in Conclaves and Town that boost units created in the city  from behing bad choices compared to others, are currently if you want such bonus you will certainly build your units in a fortress instead.

With a "train in city" upgrade option like described in my second post, such buildings could be used for existing units in addition to the fortress bonuses, making them a viable choice for a player wanting a more elite military.

If your unit is in your territory you can upgrade them (at a cost).  There are separate buttons for Upgrade Weapons, Upgrade Armor, and Upgrade Group (which increases the number of guys in the unit).

End of sweatyboatman's quote

Yes, I know of those, what I'm talking about are not them, but the upgrades that you get from fortress towns or several cities enchantments, like "+15 to accuracy to units build here", "+1 fire damage per essence" or "units built here starts with the charge trait".

I can live without the "units built here starts at X level", as you can still level the units the usual way.

As you says, I can also upgrade the armors, weapons or group size, so no problem there.

But nothing seems to allow access to the others perks. Did I miss somewhere to apply them to an existing unit ?

I'm not saying that those upgrades should necessary be free for pre-existing units, if we need a "train unit in city" with a large gold/ressources to access those upgrades, so be it, I just want some way to access them so the unit that I build early  and leveled the hard way doesn't seem outclassed by the first rookies unit.

I agree.

I only build ONE location, a fortress, with "Units trained in this city..." bonuses. I wish I could do something else, like move an existing unit into a conclave or city, and click a "Training" button that will "train" the unit, giving it any creation bonuses the city offers without removing the other ones.

This would compel me to build the town and conclave improvements that give created units an ability by making the choice impact the quality of existing units as well.

Otherwise, there is at least one option most of the time, that isn't really a choice I would ever make. I think I read somewhere those kinds of options aren't real choices...?

OP: You need different language to get the right kind of attention, change thread title to [Suggestion] Created Unit Bonuses... - and make sure to edit the first post to reference a few of those upgrades that aren't "real choices" to make your intention more clear.

I was going to disagree with you until your explanation post, at which I realized that I have always been bothered by this.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have edited slightly my first post and the thread title.

This is why I build one fortress with as many essence as I can get and try to avoid building troops until I get a lvl 3 strike garrison. It would be cool to have some other way of acquiring troop bonuses from different cities.  Maybe a special expensive trait that costs 50 production and lets troops pick up a cities bonuses as they visit them?

I would also like them to get the upgrade systems for armor and weapons worked out to start.  The upgrade group button is a great start!

I was able to upgrade in my territory from 3 man to 4 man groups for 30 gildar.

I wish that defeating wildlands would uncover a single 6/6/6  }:)  spot as part of the reward.
