[bug] Just jumped 113 levels in one go

Wow, those air shrills

v0.50, of course.

After killing the air shrills as part of the Alchemist spell quest, my characters were all assigned an astronomically high amount of experience - my main character sheet said he'd jumped to level 115.  I immediately qualified for every skill, and once I ran out of skills to pick, that was it.  Couldn't back out.  I could switch to the character sheet, but that's it.

So, that was fun.

Yeah I found that little problem as well while toying around with the cheats, they may have to add an Ok or Cancel button to the level up screen.

Well, of course you can't go back to the game - you just won an Ascenscion Victory and transcended the mortal plane.

But yes, that probably wants fixing just in case you want to continue to meddle in the affairs of lower beings without starting a new game.

Aw, I kind of liked how in regular Fallen Enchantress if you got to a high enough level and finished your Path you could pick up another one. Dual Defender/Warriors, Assassin/Mages, good fun there.

I had the same thing happen, excpet on a different quest and to a different... scale.

After exploring the Open Tomb that's created by the Night of Haunted Dreams quest, my Sov and my surviving Champions (2/4) gained ~1.4 Billion Experience Points. Each. My Soveriegn eventually reached level 1128, and I too was stuck on the level up screen after picking every trait, before the game crashed out with a Dx9 error.

Is this the right place for bug reports, or is there somewhere more official we should be using?

This goes right to my pet peeve about leveling up in this game.  Why isn't there an "Done" button on the level up sheet?  Because you only see the level up sheet when you level up and you cannot put off that decision at all.  You have to spend all your level-up points immediately.

Please, Stardock UI designers, let us choose our level up bonuses at our leisure.  Put a button on the character sheet that brings up the level up dialog.  PLEASE.  :pout:

There was a similar report in the LH Support thread (where I think bug reports are supposed to go). One or more of the enemies killed had a health of -1, and the experienced gained was in the billions.  I think one of the devs said it had been fixed.

yea it's an issue with an undefined level value for an enemy, so it becomes an enemy of level -1 and the XP calc gets jacked up. I'll make sure to check both of those spots. The more you can tell us exact spots (or even better see an enemy of level -1) the better

thanks!

Just stumbled over that issue multiple times in a row in different battles. It seems that fights in which this happens are not fixed - sometimes loading from a savegame allows to fight through same battle without any issues, sometimes it does not.

Perhaps it'd be of any help that those battles which are not helped by reloading are those which occur in dungeons as quests go.

[UPD] Just loaded a save game just before a quest battle. The quest's name is Night of Haunted Dreams, world difficulty is Novice and the enemies spawned are 3 lv 1 Cindercorpse parties of 3, 2 lv -2 Skeleton parties of 4 equipped with Boar Spears, 1 lv -2 Skeleton party of 4 equipped with Golem Axes and Ruined Chain Shirts, 2 lv -2 Skeleton parties of 3 equipped with Boar Spears and 1 lv -2 Skeleton party of 3 equipped with Golem Axes and Ruined Chain Shirts.

I'd also like a Skill Tree view of a champion/Hero/Sov with the ability to decide and plan the level ups accordingly.

I had the same issue happen with me while doing the quest with the noble woman. When I refuse the bandit offer and fight instead, I get. either 3.7 billion or more XP. This caused my sovereign to go from level 3 to level 1051 or something, and yes I was also stuck in level up and could not get out.

Savegame here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9811400/002.EleSav

1. click on the town and pick 5 units (3x hero, 1x sand golem, 1x noble woman)

2. goto the building east of the town to finish the escort

3. talk to bandit and opt to fight instead of receiving 200 gold for handing over noble woman

4. after combat is done, DING DING DING DING, notice you get 3.7 billion or more XP

Also happened to me, was kinda amusing until I realized I couldn't get out of the trait screen. Bad Stardock, bad. Go sit in the corner and correct this kinda stuff right now.

Other than that though, enjoying the expansion pack that walks like a game.

Hi all.

Downloaded the new game from Steam yesterday. Really like it.

I too have hit this massive XP gain after combat problem - got nearly 1200 levels. Also got stuck in the traits screen. It is obvious there should be an exit from this screen to save up traits or apply one later.

I have a save game just before I entered the quest's combat if needed. I only trid it twice but the bug was reproduceable.

I noticed a few other things unrelated to this thread and won't post them here.

Same quest, same result.  Everyone in the party lvled up with a CRAZY amount of xp and I got stuck on the level up screen.

Shame, I'd like to have seen how my lvl 1249 sovereign would do against my enemies... }:)

Just happened to me twice in a row, both after killing monsters in a quest, first time ascended 2487 levels, second time 1488, the quests were killing the air shrills, and getting the alchemy spell, and the undead random event, where you have the night of horrors or whatever.

Also I agree you should have more choice leveling up, like maybe the ability to choose a random leveled piece of equipment or increase a stat or resistance.

yea, there seem to be two different issues here, in the original case it was a unit that we had missed a spawn rating definition on so its level was messed up. In these new cases it looks like the monster difficulty slider being set below "normal" is sometimes causing units to spawn at levels below 0 (bad medicine). Should be a pretty easy fix, thanks for the reports :)

I had this happen too, before the crash had a brief pop up of "invalid DX call".

That is a pretty serious showstopper bug.
