if you don't select research direction on the first turn you loose it. game should not advance first turn if you don't select your first direction, on the worst case it should accumulate the research points.
Yes this would be useful (civ 5 has had this feature for a couple of years)
This would also help the issue when you step on one of those locations that gives an instant 10 or 20 Research points without having a research set, it would be nice if it just saved the RP to the next technology.
