Too Increase Enjoyment

(I honestly have not played a game passed the build up stage in some time)

not sure if this is feature or not but I would like to see my allies/team factions belongings through the fog of war as I do my own (I realize there is a cheat to unveil all fog of war but this is diff.) - most of the time I play these types of games, I like to pick a couple 'weaker ai' allies & a couple or three 'harder ai' oppenents, and about 20 average (normally challenging)- then I spend my time buffing my 'weaker' allies/team so that they make my movie for me -

this does not work well when you can't see what they're doin, and if you use the cheat then it can ruin the flavor of tha game -

not to mention that loving huge maps can be a curse when it comes to micro management, and since we cannot 'yet' assign specific ownings to be ai controlled for the user then this is a nice work'a'round - this would increase my own enjoyment of the game 10 fold I assure yus, for it is the only thing keeping me from playing past the build up stage

was curious if you guys would like such changes?

- this is a repeat of a post on the 5 things needed thread

in essence this would turn the game into a 'sim' - or at least one would have the option

we already have the ai working for the oppenents, now lets get it working for us!!

I would not say it turns the game into a "sim," it's a feature every other game in the genre has (that I can think of off-hand). It's just common sense that you can see what your allies and teammates are doing, I'm surprised it doesn't work that way in FE. I usually start trying team games eventually while playing 4x games, I just hadn't gotten to it yet so didn't know this was broken, otherwise I would have made this request before you. Actually, not "request," it would have been in the form of a bug report.

I assumed this was standard for allies and team mates myself until I started doing tests with allies of differing difficulties. IIRC you also still have to negotiate for treaties with the exchange dictated by the power difference as though you were both opposing factions. I would the economic/trade/technology would be pretty much a given for a teammate as both sides benefit.

As it is now, if you have a teammate/ally all it means is that you both won't attack each other.

Actually, I think alliances are bugged as the last game I tried to shield myself with alliances none of my allies declared war on my aggressors... But I'm not certain if this is consistent behavior as that has only happened once.

Agreed.  The few times I've tried alliances in FE, my allies have not declared war on me when I was attacked and I was not automatically brought into it when my allies were attacked.  I just got the same "A has declared war on B" notification that I would have received regardless of our diplomatic state and was not able to find any way to get involved other than by using the normal means of declaring war (complete with the normal "you are a warmongering aggressor!" diplomatic penalties, even though I was defending an ally).

I played my first game in a month (had to take a break). 16 players with teammates. I play on huge maps. I was or thought I was doing well enough until I got invaded. I always lag behind in Research even though I buy into/accept tech treaties with everyone possible. I am fielding squads of 3 against 7.

1) What does technology treaty give me? It does not accelerate research in anything. At least on my machine. I am always tremendously behind the other players, even when I am much stronger than they and recieve tribute.

2) Is there a cheat code for this?

Thanks. Looking forward to the next patch!

:Leeovold: -- I know what I do is start research on the first three things in civ tech, then jump to leather (and maybe first tier of weapons) unless you see something more highly prioritized, once you get leather you can mass produce troops (helps if you get the warlord (-50% troop upkeep)) -- once I've gotten my leather troops coming then I turn my attention to production (untill I get tha 'great windmill') & faster research (if I do this with a conclave then I"ll run faster research all the way before going back to warfare) as the troops provide protection

Normally I do this with one city, if you use a 'town' and pick air magic for sov (for gold spell) then you can have such an army you will have time to research anything you want

The AI is currently extremely broken when it comes to research. They trade their tech points with each other every turn and they don't lose the points they trade, they just gain more and more every turn, increasing their research rate exponentially as the turns pass. The more AIs on the map the faster their research explodes. You can wait for this to maybe be fixed in 1.2, mod out the tech point trading system yourself, or play with only 1-2 AIs on the map, otherwise the AI is just going to out-tech you massively every single game no matter what strategy you use.

Well I don't know how to mod unfortunately but thanks for the advise! I love the huge maps and it's very amusing to me knowing there are a couple dozen AIs out there to contend with. It's always in the middle of the game when I have beautiful cities growing and have plenty of crystal to sell to the other AIs, thinking "I am doing well". Too bad, I really hope something can be done, because spending 4 or 5 hours making a little realm only to have it crash without much of a fight from me is demotivating.

Technology and trade pacts boost your research by a percentage of your total. It'sd likely that you are under investing in research buildings. Since your base research is so low, the treaties have no effect. Try building more libraries and schools.

For the longest time I thought I was doing something sub-optimally as well. As Sanati mentioned it's a pretty bad bug. This topic (https://forums.stardock.com/437745) is all about that subject and also contains the theoretic fix.
