baffled by the diplomacy AI

So the Pariden lady must be bipolar.  I'm running my Altar civilization and she keeps warning me about the other faction, and how we need to get rid of them.  So I have a chat with her and say "I'll declare war on them if you will!" and she's all like "nope, no, that's just not acceptable."  I see her foreign policy with said faction is "close."  Huh?  Why do you keep bugging me about them?  Then she sends me money for free just because she likes me.  And I go to trade and she wants 60 wargs for 130 gold.  Okay forget that idea, how about I just wait a while and then demand a tribute?  No go, but a few seasons later she sends me another 80 gold for no reason.   Honestly I think I have to just end the relationship with the way she keeps toying with my emotions.

Check over the last several forum pages, and you'll see several threads about the joys of the diplomatic AI rules.  At the moment, they're probably the weakest thing in the game, with plenty of loop holes that translate into contradictory behavior on the part of your AI opponents, sudden shifts in attitude, mass declarations of war, etc.

For example, I had a fellow kingdom AI like me less because I declared war on an empire AI it was also at war with: but the kingdom AI hated war.  So that made a lot of sense.

Brad's written about dealing with this at some point, but who knows when that will be?  For the moment, I completely ignore the screen.  It's not worth the hassles.  If I spent more time on it, I'd probably put away the game until a patch improved it.
