So I had the 1.1 forced upon me from Steam and I'm trying to continue my game. 'Cept now saves won't load without crashing the whole thing... WTF?
Steam does not force patches, but have them only on auto-update by default. By right-clicking the game in the library you can open a menu. Select "Properties" and on pop-up window choose updates-tab and disable auto-updates for that single game. Not updating the games may lead into version mismatches and perhaps even to refusal to launch the game successfully.
Not all the game developers manage to fix bugs via patches, but create more. Should you have any doubts, disable auto-patching and browse for news and forums. If people complain about new problems don't update until there are hot fixes. If everyone cheers the new patch I guess there should be no problems to proceed with patching.
As far I know Steam don't allow you roll back to older patch or gave you choice of older patch, once you upgraded, you screwed and can't go back older if newer patch is not good to you...
I have almost 40 games in my Steam library, all have been auto-patched, yet none have been made unplayable due to one.

Most game companies test their patches before they release them.
Well, I've seen many patches to games not be compatible with previously saved games. However, it is unfortunate that Steam forces the update on you. There should be a way to choose when to update.
Regardless of Steam autopatch, the fact is that the game ran flawlessly before 1.1, and now none of my saves will load.
Is there any fix to this that doesn't include reinstalling the game?
