[1.02] Loss by conquest bug?

I had one where I was plodding along on my own, having a few cities on a large map, 5 AI players, only just met them.

I was just about to start producing my first units when suddenly... I heard a crashing noise and for a second it appeared as if my capital city disappeared... then a very strange cut scene happened where a camera was hovering over a map, which then abruptly faded to black without explanation... and a popup told me "loss by conquest".

What? How?

My Sovereign was just outside my capital, with no enemy units in sight. I wasn't even at war with anyone?

Did your Sov pay the electricity bill? It seems that the company cut it...

Have you a savegame to check it?

I was able to repeat the event by loading the previous auto save, yes.

But unless I botched which save I chose, the third time I did it, and left my Sovereign in my capital for two more turns, the loss never happened. Still, even when I continued after the loss, the capital was still there.

Despite all of this, that game over cut-scene with the map and fade to black? Holy crap what a disappointment! I thought it was a bug as well because I had no idea what was going on, and then it just abruptly ended.

EDIT: I just checked a save game I have. If I load it and press "end turn", I hear the giant crash and see the cut scene... still no idea why.

I wonder if it is curgens volcano killing your sovereign insta-kill.

I don't think so, because if I choose "continue" I can continue the game like nothing happened. No cities lost and no units lost.

Are you warring with Kraxis?

Edit: oops, yes, you said no to this in your original post.

As I stated in an earlier reply, I was not at war with anyone.
