Dodge and Ranged Dodge - Mechanics + Mounted Modifier?

Do they stack when calculating dodging ranged attacks?

At the moment I am assuming that Dodge only effects melee attacks and Ranged Dodge only effects physical ranged attacks. However - I could be wrong and Dodge could also potentially add to a unit's ability to dodge a physical ranged attack.

I ask this because I'm presently juggling with weapon balance and want to make each weapon very distinct yet also with realistic flavour (maces have armour penetration, swords are versatile offensive & defensive weapons, shortbows are faster to shoot than longbows but don't have nearly half as much stopping power - etc.). I want to make it so the way swords can be used defensively is reflected in their statistics by giving them a dodge bonus (which is essentially a parry bonus), but I don't want that bonus to also give the swordsman a ranged dodge bonus.

That being said, is there a modifier for "against mounted/large opponents"? I feel the dodge bonus offered by a sword shouldn't grant the soldier that benefit against a mounted foe (perhaps some benefit still but not as much as it would against fellow infantry). At the same time a soldier isn't going to be able to parry a dragon's tail or a giant's club. Not to mention if one does exist it would mean spears can be average in combating infantry but also very effective against cavalry - especially pikes - or increasingly accurate against giant creatures.

Any help would be appreciated.

I honestly don't know how dodge and ranged dodge combines.

The unitstat background mod (https://forums.elementalgame.com/417871) has stats for mounted and oversized enemies.

Wow, that's quite brilliant. Wish I had the time to comb through everything here and find gems like that.

I take it I should place those files into my Data\English folder or just those in the CoreReplacementFiles folder?

I've checked your mod thread but I don't see any "installation" instructions for the files, but that doesn't mean you've already mentioned it. I apologise in advance if you have.

It goes in Documents/My Games/FallenEnchantress/Mods/

See this post for some restrictions https://forums.elementalgame.com/417871/get;3084548 (although it talks about weapons and terrains, it applies to everything)

shortbows are faster to shoot than longbows but don't have nearly half as much stopping power
End of quote

Whether or not this is true depends heavily on the design and construction of the bow in question, and on the materials used for said bow. It also depends somewhat on the arrow used, as different styles of arrow will have different armor penetration qualities and inflict different types of injuries on a successful hit. If you assume that all the bows that you're designing are made from the same kind of material and use the same style of construction, with the difference being the length of the bow, then your assumption that longbows are more powerful than shortbows isn't bad, but strictly speaking any given longbow is not necessarily any more powerful than any given shortbow.

Dodge definitely affects the chance to dodge a ranged attack.

I have always assumed that ranged dodge is added to dodge, but I have never bothered verifying that.  Still, nothing I have seen makes me think otherwise.
