Worth buying?

Part deux

Hi there, I'm a huge fan of GalCiv and 4x games, so last year I was intrigued with the first Elemental until I started reading the forum.  I asked if it was worth buying and was generally told "no" and wait for 1.1, etc.  Seems it never came 'round to unbroken status, so I'm glad I listened to you guys.

So here we are again...  Is FE worth it, or are we waiting for 1.1 again to buy?  Reviews are mixed, but I never trust game sites anymore.  Thanks!

Well the game is good, still need some improvements though. But this game is turn-based and like Fall from Heaven 2 for Civilization 4 mod by Kael. Not sure if you have ever played any game compare to Lords of Magic, Master of Magics, etcs.

I like it, just need extra work into it to polish the game some more.

Big yes on Fallen Enchantress.  It's a great game.  But, don't get discouraged early on if you start playing and it seems brutally difficult.  It looks harder than it actually is, with big scary monsters all over the place, but you can learn pretty fast how to deal with it. It's really a fun game, lots of options most games don't have.

Yep. Pirated it initially (shame), and then wanted the updates and decided the game was good enough to purchase.

The base game is fun and replayable. There's a big difference between playing a sparsely populated map (3 to 4 players on a medium size) and playing a packed one (10 players on medium)... or going with 1 wildlands vs. "many" wildlands. So far I've had good success with a heroes and henchmen questing faction, a warmonger faction focusing on high armor, and a mage faction that completely forgoes all weaponry.

And... so far, mods and continued base game improvement (aka 1.1) look like this game will last me a long time. Right up there with Master of Magic, Starcraft, and R:TW.

Yes.  FE is all that WoM should have been and more.

Yes, it's a good game, and I think you should get it.

This game is very much worth buying. Lots of niggling issues, but overall this is still the funnest gane I have played in quite some time. I bought probably 20 games in the last few months, but I cant stop from coming back to this one. Cant say that about War of Magic, since I never finished a single game there since it was pretty much boring beyond building cities and specialized troops.  Beyond The Walking Dead, this is probably my favorite game this year, just ahead of XCOM.

I love this game. There is so much the designers got right. I was a little lost at first, but the learning curve is reasonable--especially if you're willing to browse the forums.

Incidentally, I got the game for free since I purchased EWoM when it first came out. I'm grateful Stardock did this because I didn't like EWoM at all, so I never would have purchased and discovered this great game.

Yes, it's very good and getting better all the time.  Play vanilla to warm up, then look into some of the mods - there are some great ones that really fill out the game.

Biggest problem is lack of documentation - you're pretty much on your own.  Be sure to read the stickied Beginner's Guide by Tuidyj here on the forums.

Years ago, I modded a Borg faction for Sid's Alpha Centauri..I just don't think they would fit well in the world of FE.

Definite yes from here! Best TB strategy I've played in a very long time.

Biased, but honest.  It's a good sign that there's so much support for it, which is quite the opposite of my experience visiting shortly after WOM's release.  Someone above mentioned XCOM, which I just finished and loved, so I think we're on the same page here.  Will dl from Steam now.  Thanks again!

I wish I could mod.

I wish I could visit Vallu751's planet. As a kid I always admired the Cylons as they were the primary antagonists to the last group of humanity, the authors of strife.  May the Imperious Leader be reincarnated to seal the fate of the plague afflicted homosapiens.

FE should come with a warning sticker because of its addictive just-one-more-turn quality.

The only bad thing I can say about it is that you may end up Ctrl-Ning so many times.  But when you do get the start that you want, it makes the early game less challenging.  But if you don't then you can end up struggling during the early game.  There isn't a lot of incentive to just settle wherever and make the best of it.

Exactly!

We might be biased but we aren't so biased that we wouldn't tell you the truth if FE was rubbish like WoM was.

FE is a good game (might be a great game if they ever polish it properly!), have fun.

Definitely a great buy for me.  Been playing it every night since I got it.  Nearly cancelled boardgaming last night to play it, which I never consider with a computer game.

Good buy, IMHO. For years I've rotated playing many of the turn based strategy favorites I have and FE is the first to get played back to back for me in that time. Best release(for me) since Civ4 or Gal Civ2O(with expansions).

The best game this year for me. I'm also a great fan of games like Civilization series, GalCiv2 and the Europa Universalis series.

When I was younger I also played the Heroes of Might and Magic series and MoM.  Fallen Enchantress reminds me of these two, but it's better. It has alot of those things I've always wished the Heroes-series would evolve into to become a deeper strategy game, but the HoMM-series stopped evolving after Heroes IV...

It's a very good game. You will need to give it some time before it 'clicks' but after that it only gets better and better.

Okay to throw a "No" voice into this ocean.

I would wait for getting it out of 2 reasons.

A; The game is still buggy to the point where certain players (including me) are not able to run it. Although I´ve got the feeling that we are a minority amon the happy players (which makes it only worse).

B: Stardock support has yet to impress me. My forum posts about my problem remains unanswered and my support-ticket took 5 days to get an answere (Asking to run the SD-Support tool and send the logs which I did... 2 days ago) and still no solution after owning the game for one week not beeing able to play it.

My recomendation is to "organize" it first (to see if it runs and if you like it) and buy during the steam winter sale in 2-3 Weeks :) I did the error of buying before trying it and if freaks me the hell out.

very good game, and i would recommend it to anyone. a lot of good fun to be had. there is a campaign which is reminiscent of Final Fantasy Tactics or Suikoden Tactics. There is a sandbox mode like civ.  The game has a few small issues; sometimes powerful monsters appear near your capital early game and frag you, other times you just can't expand whatsover.  however, of all the games ive played, and plan to - i would say there is much to praise from this game.

I would say a `yes` but with a caveat.  It largely depends on how much you are going to pay for it.

I dont think its worth it at its full price of £25, unless you are really into Turn-based or 4X games.  However, I got mine in the recent steam sale for £12.50 and for that price, it is going to appeal to alot more people willing to take a bit of a gamble/punt on something that isnt thier primary genre (myself included).

As it turned out, I am about 30 hours played and enjoying it for the most part, which is more than could be said for my experiences in most 4X/Strategy games. But the point is, I wouldnt have even tried it at £25.
