1.02 Cant install - install completes but no executable files are present

OK, I was on the beta, and uninstalled that a couple months ago.

When I used stardock central to install 1.02 about a week ago, the install seemed to complete a little too quickly, and my Fallen Enchantress folder does not have any executable files in it - just some graphics files.

I tried contacting stardock support 4 days ago, but have not received anything other than an automated reply with a ticket number.

I suspect there are some fragments of the beta left behind that are interfering with the install, but I'm not sure. I've uninstalled 1.02, and used CCCleaner to remove any references to FallenEnchantress, and have removed the folder, but when I tried the install again, I had the exact same result - it installs a few data and graphics files, but no executables.

Can anyone help me, please?

Nothing more than to confirm that I have the same situation.

I was suspecting firewalled connection but it does not look like your case.

that's what I did (see my earlier post about being unable to logon to Stardock central)

We may be misunderstanding each other I'm talking about downloading the game install from the stardock website and not using stardock central.  Stardock central is a program from stardock that functions like download manager for stardock software(I think since I never used).  The idea is to eliminate stardock central from the equation in case it is causing the problem.  Stardock central is not required to install the game.  I installed my game using the method I described above and it works fine.  For me the login credentials for the stardock website are the same as I use or the forum.

Again I'm talking about downloading the game install file from the stardock website and not using stardock central program.

Hope that makes sense.

I remember Brad posting that you would need to uninstall the beta and install the game from scratch when the game was released.  This includes deleting the FE directory.

I've tried installing via Stardock Central, and installing via the downloaded installer. Both give the same result - the install completes, but there is no executable. My start menu shortcut points to a file that does not exist.

I uninstalled the beta a couple of months ago, well before any attempts to install the full version. Perhaps it didn't uninstall properly, or perhaps it left some fragments in the registry. I did check that the fallen enchantress folder was removed before installing. If so, I need a method to ensure that all traces of the beta are gone. I tried CCCleaner, then attempted to reinstall again, but still no luck.

Is there a logfile for the installer so I can find the logic it is following when it decides to leave out installing the executables, but not report an error to the user? Perhaps it can give me a clue as to where to investigate next?

Did a forum search(beta uninstall) and found 2 things.

Did you delete both folders.  You need to delete the folder where the program was installed and the fallen enchantress folder(s) in my games folder.

The 2nd thing I found was to delete the following key from the registry but these people had an error message during install but might help

  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\F8E0573777207FE4DA0977325B0C8A8B

At this point I would try to uninstall from control panel/programs if available, then ensure both folders are gone, then delete registry key and try to reinstall

Finally got it working - there is another registry entry to remove. Did a string search for 'Enchantress', found one I'd missed. Not the one mentioned above, but another. All working now.

Not on my side.

I've removed anything I was able to find in registry.

and tried again. this time I managed to download the thing using SDC.

failure. What's interesting is that four out of five times I get extraction failed (file is corrupt) during the initial decompression.

the one time it managed to decompress succesfuly, it has installed again without executable files ...

it's getting frustrating ... :(

Damn,

I tried to install v 1.00 from the backup, but the file was said to be corrupt (low probability, but anyway).

I managed to redownload v. 1.00 (it had installed previously), and got the same result, short installation, and no executables.

yay, deadlock!

managed to manually delete everything with the name FE on it so i could try install again, again doesnt work.

uninstalled again, which works this time but doesnt delete ANYTHING in the game folder. GJ, GUYS, REALLY IMPRESSIVE!

dunno how good FE is, but after putting up with elemental and now this, the worst installer fuckup i ever had - honestly i cant even imagine a worse one - i dont think i care anymore.
