Epic Map (20X15) - First try at "modding"

Updated with xml link

Recently bought myself a new gaming rig and thought I would put it through it's paces.

After a few tweaks in the coremaps.xml file I've kicked off a game with around 15 AI opponents on a 20 X 15 map.

Overall performance is pretty good : takes around 30 seconds to load up the save game, and there's a 8-9 second delay at the end of each turn, but apart from 1 CTD I've seen no issues

The game itself is awesomely epic :- 20 hours in and I've seen less than a quarter of the map, and only met 2 AI so far (and I'm NOT turtling...)

Growth in my settlements is a bit of an issue as the Prestige bonus may as well not exist, and I need to slow down research rates in my next run through as I'm about 75% of the way through the tech tree now.

Having GREAT fun though - some piccy's on the links below.

Shout up if any questions!

If you want to follow the same experiment, my xml file is here

To install :

Go to "My documents" folder

My Games -> Fallen Enchantress -> Mods

(Not sure if this step necessary) Make a new folder - I called mine "bigmaps"

Drop the coremaps.xml file in there

When you next load the game, make sure "enable mods" is ticked in the options settings - you may need to restart the game

After that - when you start a new game you will have 2 more size options on the custom map setting -> "Bigger" for 12X10, and XLarge for 20X15

I'll get round to some tidying of labels, adding more options and further balancing of pace eventually - want to see how this pans out a bit longer first

"I thought over 12x8 it gave a warning?"

Oh it still does - and I fully expect it to fall over and start twitching at some point, but for now all is good :)
