Roads

Roads should lead from one of your cities to one of your other cities, same with outposts, should link to the closest friendly city. Right now, if some trade road passes through your territory it connects to that, even if there is no link not through other players territories back to your next city. this is stupid.

I have to second this.  It is an enormous, extremely important roll of luck whether a group of cities established mid-game hooks easily to your other group of cities, or whether it connects to some opponent city in a whole different direction.

I'm sorry, but that's what you get when you outsource you road construction companies to China...

That's too generous - it is what you get when you outsource your road construction to Homer Simpson!

I kind of like how the roads are semi-random.  Seems more "organic" instead of each road being a State Development Project.  But yeah does it ever irritate my OCD.

Many people are happy with the instaroads because:

1) roads are free (only a tech requiered) and inmediate.

2) they are freed from building them.

And I suspect that the AI can't build roads. So insta-roads fixes both issues...

But I'd like to be able to build roads: MY ROADS. They would go the path I decide. Building them should have a cost of 5 or 10 gildar per piece. Mancers could build them for free, for that of "balancing". And the AI...should be teached to build them too

I always have a governor in my games.  They can get a trait that lets them builds roads.  It's a bit clumsy to use, but it does the job.  I just wish they could also demolish roads.  Roads in the wrong place really screw path-finding up.

"I just wish they could also demolish roads."

Seems realistic.  I know some real life governors who are good at wrecking stuff.
