What is the best thing in FE in your opinion and what is your thought on that

I start with mine:

Best Part

The most interesting part in FE IMHO is the injuries system after battles , I haven't played any 4X Game having that yet lol...

(However in mid game it is getting to many and seems like very unforgiving and no recover system either with money, spells etc and

I have to abuse that with Save/Load method)

It is very easy to recover in 1.01. Make a city into a Conclave (make sure it has 1 essence at least) then go Herbalist -> Apothecary. In your shop you can now buy Iru Elixirs for 150 gold that remove 1 random injury.

My favourite part about FE is that we get to design our own units. There are premade templates, but it is just so much fun to equip both your army units and your heroes down to the last detail. No other game has this level of graphical customization.

My second favourite part are the wildlands.

I like the implementation of RPG style for heroes and units in a 4x fantasy game, so you identify with your sov and champs and want to grow them as powerfull as possible, while developing an empire.

The designing of units (weapons/armor/trinkets/traits) is very nice too. I hope this Christmas brings us new wepons and traits ;)

RPG/strategy mix and the possibility of modding.

I am having a ton of fun with the tactical combat.  I am starting to get a feel enough of the 4X part to be ready to raise a difficulty or two.  Right now, I am really enjoying finding new weapons and creatures and such.  The hints of lore everywhere is great flavor.  I may break my gaming precedent and actually play a scenario/campaign.  That is quite something for me.

- sov. creation, champ. + sov. equip

- unit design

- tactical battles

- use of magic

- art style

I think the Iru Elixir needs to have a 25% chance of removing a random injury.  Champs got a book boost in power becuase of this Elixir.

Dragons---I love dragons.  I love it when they are in my army.

My favourite part of FE is Heavenfall.. oh wait...

My favourite part... thats hard... Probably that I get heroes and they get levels with random choices (yes I said it ;)) although I could prefer different choices, I like the system...
I also like the point that you get to design your own units (kind of fits with the "custom" heroes).

My Thoughts.... I like icecream.

The City Design, the fact that my buildings appear on the game map and the shape of a city can be important (blocking land routes to my other lands) is great. You can even rotate the buildings for aesthetic pleasantness.

robust map maker - I guess..., this question hurst my head to think on

I think you guys did a good job hitting the mark with this game.  It may need a little polish here and there, but as far as the whole picture goes, you've done good.

Yep, this for me too. This game reminds me of Lords of Magic, which was one of my favorite games.

:The capability to zoom from the omniscient perspective to that of the individual, and interact with the cause and effect chain at both levels.

Design wise, I feel the innovation that fosters this functionality more than any other is the intricacy of the cloth map.

About 3/8 of the way through the Beta-testing period, I asked a similar question (started a similar Discussion thread), back on May 31, 2012.  I will pin the URL here, in case folks would like to see what kind of comments were made back then.

     https://forums.elementalgame.com/426074

Besides, Kongdej needs to be reminded of what he said back then ... :)

Kidding aside, an awful  LOT  of changes have been made to E:FE since then; and we now have many more active correspondents, who will have interesting views to share.

A Good Discussion is always worth having;  so thanks for starting this one, Muttala.

The best thing for me is the modability. We can all live in our separate worlds with our own game preferences. The game never gets stale for me since each new game is a slight improvement over the other.

The first 60 turns or so, when the world is full of lairs to explore, loot to gather & stuff to fight.  Past that, and you're playing a very pared-down 4X game in a blasted wasteland.  I wish there was a setting to have players and AI start as far away from each other as possible, to extend the exploration phase.  Playing larger maps with few AI works, but then the game is essentially over after your first major conquest.

I think one of Best Things in the game right now, is the breadth and depth of Customization (via the Starting Screens) that is available even in the Plain Vanilla Sandbox game.  Taken as a whole, those starting screens provide an amazing degree of Customization in the various realms of:  Sovereigns, Factions, Geography, Characteristics/bonuses, Selected opponents, Monster density, Faction appearances/colours etc.  And this broad range of Customization, over several dimensions of the game, is immediately accessible to even first time gamers, who are not technically oriented.

(I suppose the downside is complexity; and the "Starbucks syndrome": too many available choices ... :omg:  )

But I have to think, over the longer run, that this wide availability of Customization significantly adds to the Replayability of even the un-modified Sandbox game.  After you master the mechanics of one race's bonuses and weaknesses, you can tackle one of the other seven.  Get tired of all those, and you can create a Sovereign and race from scratch.  Get tired of the same old opponents, you can create your own sovereigns/races and play against  them.

Besides fostering Replayability, I think the wide breadth and depth of Customization also adds to the  Immersion  inherent in the game.  You can really take this game and make it your own ... and then do it time and time again ...

(Caveat: I know some folks lament the absence of Elves, Orcs, Munchkins, Yeti, and Transformers in the Vanilla Game; but, hey, that's what the Modders are for!        )

Except in mods where new lairs spawn all the time and the world never ceases to have new dangers and stories.

That was my GOOD twin...

Sometimes when you play with mechanics long enough, you get to like them ;)
I didn't like the random hero traits at first, but in the long run it keeps me from going to the same hero build each game.

The best thing for me is that coming back to the game I didn't want to make a custom race. It may sound odd but by that I mean not that I don't like custom races, I always enjoy customising things so I expected to want to do that, instead I was enticed into playing and actually enjoyed playing as each of the ingame races for many full games. I haven't actually stuck with a race of my own yet. Some of them still need a little love but I completed games as each, version 1.00, no major issues. My old buggy computer had struggled in the past but it all worked (a few minor graphics issues- eyes look weird, spellbook is ugly looking... but nothing big), the rest looked very pretty. Enjoyed it for hours.

Wildlands - great idea, beautifully done. Fun monsters and stories.

Quests - had the same quest hook that went in different directions, multiple choices and fun and powerful rewards

Art - every time I see a new piece of art, a screen, video, creature, building or icon I remember the video of drawing the dragon statue from ages ago and I have a smile at how pretty it all is.

Leveling up cities - also I like the fact that it's all editable in the xml, it'd be easy to change the requirements (conclaves producing/requiring mana or crystal for example)

Buying bread from a bakery and a potion from my conclave, there was something extremely satisfying about that. It made me feel like the world was real, things connected together as they should and as I always hoped to have in a game like this. Such a small thing, but it made me bore people with my praise for the game and what it wasn't just attempting to do but had actually managed to do.

For me personally, the game has gone from attempting to be a successor to MoM to actually being it. I look forward now to seeing what's next, I have lots of ideas for what could be done, but I don't know what ideas Derek and the team will decide are fun and complimentary additions. (item crafting, spell crafting, the two factions that are missing, diplomacy overhaul... or just more of the same, more monsters, more quests, more traits for champions and cities, more techs (unique tech trees) etc.

If any of the team are reading this... Thank you!

Best thing in the game for me is the game itself. I havent played a game that much for a long time. I finish a game and immediately i start another to check all races till i find my favorite ( still havent tried Wraiths and my custom made Umber and Capitar). And after that comes customization of about anything faction, sovereign you name it. So i guess thats what makes FE so special, you can customize almost everything to your taste especially units (my Ythril Berserkers equipped with Guillotine axes and no armor rocked  :D )

Visually - the cloth map is such a unique element to a RPG game.  And I also like that I can also zoom in on buildings and see little people going about their lives.

As far as the game - the wildlands are the coolest part for me.  Being able to take down an elemental lord, that rocks.

Sean's Mod -https://forums.elementalgame.com/430587. This is vanilla FE on crack and a whole hell lot of it.

Heavenfall's Mod - https://forums.elementalgame.com/421802. This is content and a whole hell lot of it.

Doing a current playthrough of Sean's mod on highest world difficulty... crazy times. Picture heavy review but it can give you a feel of what Sean's world is like. https://forums.elementalgame.com/436313
