Editing Custom Sovereigns and Factions

Can we please have the ability to edit custom factions and sovereigns. They can be created fine, but if you make one little mistake you're stuck with it, especialy if you forget to change the name and get stuck with one of the awful random names that are generated. And while I'm about it can we also have the ability to delete them? While it appears that sovereigns can be deleted by right-clicking, it is only a temporary delete as the AI can still use the deleted monarch. I've even deleted the faction XML file from the Race folder in the MgGames folder but the AI still uses the faction. Which also raises the question as to whether a custom faction/sovereign should even be available to the AI. Maybe it could be an option.

You can edit it if you go into the XML files, and to delete them, delete the files (they are in the Units folder).

but he seems to be saying that races can still be used even if he deletes them in the XML.

I guess you have to delete BOTH the race file AND sovereign file to make sure the race is wiped out? Seems odd that the race can still show up if the Sovereign is alive when the race is not ... but interesting loophole :P

That is a very non-userfriendly version, I would have to remember all the tags and codes to edit my faction to what I want.

I agree with the original poster that it would be awesome to see a faction editor.

An "Factions, and Units/Sovereigns" manager would be nice as well, so I can use the program itself to delete the items, instead of just hiding them.

For Ellinelle, The sovereign is located in the "Units" folder, if you want to be completely rid of an old faction's sovereign, you have to locate the sovereign in the units folder and shoot it with death rays, rip the pieces to shreds, put the shreds down a volcano, and then blow up the volcano... that would give a 50% chance for the sovereign to be gone ;)

Agreed.  Sometimes you make one mistake and you're hosed -- you have to start from scratch.  It would be nice to see that made a little more user-friendly.

Great idea! that would be really cool to be able to edit custom factions and sovereigns as we go. Like being able to change traits to test out multiple starting builds would be really helpful.

I fell for the random name trap on the first sovereign I created as well  ^^"

I'm in complete agreement with Ellinelle's Original Post on this subject.

For starters, the Starting Screens of the Game are  very non-user-friendly  in this one particular area.

Since Sovereign and Faction Customization are apt to be among the first things that new players will encounter, and start to experiment with, it really is a shame, that these particular screens are so non-intuitive, and so fraught with mis-cues, and then so completely  fatal  if you make any mistakes.

Obviously, there needs to be a simple Editor function, that would allow you to correct your mistakes, without having to discard/erase the sovereign and faction, and then completely start over every time.

I have created about a dozen Custom Factions and Sovereigns, going back several months; but I still make mistakes.  Just today I screwed one up again -- forgetting to chose the Faction Symbol, and then typing the Backstory in the wrong place.  [ Hint: the Backstory in the Faction creation sub-set will show up, when you choose a custom sovereign on the Introductory Screen.  However, the Backstory to the Sovereign is worthless.  It seems to totally disappear.  It will not show up anywhere in the course of a game. ]  I really wish that Stardock would fix that issue, and provide a decent (user-friendly) Editor, for correcting and changing,  Custom Sovereigns and Factions.

Wow. Just came across this thread. I cant believe its months old and still a truly valid concern. You should get on this before LH releases
