v1.01: Performance - well?!

I'm a desperately lonely guy. I need constant attention.

My big contribution to v1.01 was setting myself up with a performance profiler and going to town on FE.

So, is anyone noticing a big performance boost with v1.01 over 1.0?

Hi,

it looks as if I am the first to replyl

I am sorry to say that if something the performance has been to the worse.... Everything from loading to between turns is slower and espacially beteween turns.

Otherwise I really love this game, but I do have an issue regarding Quests (which you can see in another thread).

Best regards

i noticed a significant change. My system is underpowered for FE so i'm still not able to play full games or even short games on medium maps. But it used to be that every time i shut down the game i had to call up task manager in order to shut off a lingering elemental process. Now that only happens when i been playing awhile. If i play overlong, the game crashes on exiting, which freezes the computer forcing a hard reboot. So i don't push it very far. i see significant improvement from v1.0 to v1.01. But still can't finish a game. Maybe with a tiny map rush.

I must say that there was a performance boost on my machine. So I think you made some progress on that front.

Haven't had a chance to play enough yet to tell. Will advise. Should be able to get some time in this weekend.

Performance is much better.

Well, that was conclusive, I think you received the entire gamut of possible answers. :(

The performance on my crappy machine is better... not sure about my good machine.

Loading and unloading the game improved for me... turns on a medium map against 5 AIs on normal got boggy around AC 187 or so, but not consistently from turn to turn (sorry, Leo in Wis.  , it sounds unscientific).  Tactical battle animations are more fluid and the new way Amarians get their shard boni is much cleaner.

I have noticed multiple Arenas of the Slakhanan? on the map...

Haven't noticed much difference aside from a few graphical glitches... then again my comp is a bit of a monster and never had a problem in 1.00 either, so... yeah.

All looking good so far, seems to be a slight improvement over 1.00 for me.

With 1.00 I often experienced sluggish screen scrolls independently of zoom level. It seems to be completely gone since v1.004. This is very appreciated improvement.

However sluggish screen scroll is still there when I zoom out to just before switching to cloth map, but it is not so annoying at the moment.

I didn't notice until I saw this thread, but transitioning between turns is a lot smoother.

there is improvement for sure. Would be nice if the game would use my 4 cores more efficiently though ( yeah I know that's a tall order). 1 core tends to get maxed out or nearly maxed out.

I honestly haven't noticed a difference. (I access FE via Steam)

GREAT IMPROVEMENT over 1.0

If you have the machine to run this game it's great. If you're trying to play with a rellic then yeah you're gonna have poor performance. Spend some money get a good machine and put granny to bed. ;) Also turning off all unrequired and un-needed programs in task manager helps as well. You really only need explorer and taskeng running in the background. (besides the actual game of course lol)

Tactical battles in cities with mana shards are still a bit sluggish.

Worse. Game Stalls on startup now. Several different stalls in tact battle. white tree load delay.

nothing really changed for me.

Though, can you stop using 'Program Data' for the dump files/etc?  It's better to use the 'My Games/Elemental/etc' spot for that type of file (or the install directory).  Plus, my SSD drive has enough problems containing windows (40 GB drive with 25. MB left...)  I don't need more programs dumping files into a 'hidden' directory.

I thought it ran better. The animation seemed alot smoother and the turn transitons seemed faster as well.

No change for me, i play on large map with nine adversary, after two hours of game bug and crash arrived, impossible to finish one game....

The time delay after pressing Turn is much shorter at late-game.

I commented in the changelog. I am running the lamest imaginable video card with a mid range processor. The game was slow as all get out in 1.0. Now it's much much faster. I am getting a full system upgrade next week. I can't wait to see how well it runs then.
