You humans and your germs

With v1.01 now out, Kael has given me liberty to indulge myself with the AI for v1.1.

So you might as well quit playing now. It's over. The AI won't even need you humans anymore. You're just...frankly, a distraction.  You guys move way too slowly. Your strategies are non optimal and you just disrupt things.  Halo 4 is out. Go play that.  FE 1.1 will be best if you guys just acknowledge that your meat based brains were insufficient.

That is all.

I would hate to see higher thinking AI only linked with resource bonus AI ... :(

My two gildar:

  • AI use of strategic spells - they need to use them, all of them. If mana is a problem, please consider (for higher difficulties) giving some mana bonuses to offset. The AI is gimped.
  • Diplomacy AI - Refine the dogpile methodology and bring balance. There have been many posts on this with good ideas. Personally would prefer weaker factions band together to balance a stronger faction. As a player, if I'm top dog (or near top dog) I welcome the entire world declaring war on me to balance. If I'm the runt of the litter, prefer alliances or at least neutrality to balance the strength of the top factions. Have this scale with difficulty - if I choose the harder difficulties, I'm fine with everyone declaring war on me... I asked for it. But lower difficulties, make the AI more rational. Would love to see the entire diplomacy aspect of this game get tons of love.
  • UI improvement to notify when AI uses strategic spells or negative city enchantments. As HF noted, right now the player can only see visually on the 3d strategic map. Furthermore, negative enchantments are not visible anywhere in the UI (last game I had 16x casts on a single city debuffing my defenders hit points... had no idea they were even there until I saw the debuff in city details. It doesn't tell me the name of the spell affecting the city). In addition, it affected my FP as when the 9 stack of defenders were in the city, my FP was way lower. When I moved them out of the city, they got all their HP's back and the FP rose substantially. This actually occurred in multiple cities.
  • Consider reviewing the accuracy of FP and how it's calculated. Been here a long time and don't remember ever seeing details on how FP is calculated. Most often, the FP hasn't made much sense - someone looks scary on score but when push comes to shove, they get rolled. If you shared the current logic, the community might be of some help here with good ideas.
  • A pony - oh, nevermind...

Frogboy, you wrote on this forum, a couple months ago, that there would be a python API if the game was doing well. According to your recent messages - it is. While we're not entitled to this and it wasn't a "promise", it's still a feature that has been put forward for years.

The current modding system has quite a few restrictions that limits the amount of interesting content we can add (there's lots of ideas for Master's Afflictions that Sean and I have to discard every day); a well-crafted python API would improve moddability enormously. Is this in the plans? Is there a glimmer of hope to see something of this order in 2013?

But really, we have more similarities than you think ... as we are nothing more than up quarks and down quarks
(sure there are strange quarks, etc ... but up and down are what WE are made of iirc )
End of Tasunke's quote
We're made of a shitton more than just that (if you count sea quarks, and not just valence quarks*, we have a bit of all quark flavors, in a way, plus some leptons and gauge bosons).

Sorry, quark stuff is my RL job, can't help jumping in and touting my horn :p.

*wikipedia it, I don't want to go more off-topic or sound pretentious :p.

AI is bland.

I agree... Bring it on...

Based on what I've seen so far from last nights game on Challenging, I'm going to have to move up a difficulty notch or two to get a challenge.

removing the autobuild bug, the difficulty rounding and keeping roaming monsters close to home has really nerfed the AI.

Brad, you need to get WAY MORE FLAVOR TEXT into diplomacy.  The AI should constantly be peppering you with various insults (or buttering you up with new compliments).  I would love to have the AI, when losing a war, say to me something like "You think things are going well for you now?  Soon I will reload from a save and wipe you off the face of the earth!"

Clearly, you're sitting there thinking of insults, why not let the AI say them in the game?

Give us pain!

I the AI does not use magic to the max, it should be because of the frog not getting there yet. If it is to never happen, and because the humans should be spared, I will move on to another pasture.

Would you mind throwing us some development updates in the dev journals? This is point where the game gets really fun for me. I would love to read about it.

I hope we do get MP some day just so I can kick Brad's arse.    Until then, I will be pretending that every one of the AI's that my meat brain stomps is actually him.

Haha, I agree and I am also thinking the same while playing. :D

You guys saying freeze and tremor... the AI using them would be great.

Don't forget about tornado! I want to see my stack of doom march towards the enemy capital suddenly scattered to the winds and picked off one unit at a time. That's the spell that's truly OP...

Yeah - these are good spells too.  Disruptive, but not calamitous.  I remember in MoM the AI would spam Corruption and Raise Volcanoes on you all the freaking time and I got so fed up with it I found an editor that made those two spells cost a prohibitive amount of mana.

Just have the AI play Dredmor and steal quotes from the Diggles.
