How good is Fallen Enchantress? Consider this:

Despite only a handful of reviews (average review score 4/5), it is in the top list of games being played by Steam even though the people most likely to buy this type of game got it for free as a non-Steam game (so it won’t count).

I think it’s safe to say that Fallen Enchantress is the start of a beautiful new fantasy game world.

Great news.

Good!  Because this engine deserves to grow and evolve.  FE was a significant leap forward.  I hope you are someday able and/or willing to double back to add dynasties and minor factions to spice things up.  I'd buy that expansion.

Agreed. Am glad you speak of further development. Is good game. Becoming an interesting game-scape. And shaping up to revolutionalize TBS. Few reviews but high usage speaks well of the power of product word of mouth in the internet age. Products speak for themselves. Loud-mouthed internet does the rest.

Lets hope. I see that Kings Bounty (another game for a gamer who wants to use the brain a little) is quite high on the list. It gives me hope as well :)

Will you ever say anything about sales of this game frogboy? How is it doing? I would think that the sales curve of FE is a lot less volatile than a usual game. Most games sell a lot for a very short while and then people move to the next triple A game. FE relies more on word of mouth and will hopefully sell for quite a while yet.

Great news!

People talk all about sales, but let's not forget that other bit which is important for FE. If I was Derek Paxton (which I'm not) and signed up to develop FE, I'd tell Frogboy that he'd already sold 80 000 copies for free to early E:wom adopters. As such, it will also be important what those customers think of FE, in addition to looking at the sales numbers. How many times did Frogboy say that FE will be "making it up" (paraphrased) to those who were disappointed in E:wom?

I'd be willing to sacrifice my left earlobe if this wasn't a big clause in how Stardock are going to determine if FE is a success or not.

Image and self esteem are important factors here I know. If they rebuild their image in the public its a success. But for more long term development of the franchise, we need sales.

That means we have our mission accomplished moment now?  I think so.

But we need a meta critic score of 7.9 or less to avoid the giant bonus for Derek which would bankrupt Stardock! :O

I'm doing my best joasoze, playing Crossworlds until 1.0.1 is available :-)

I'v played all kings bounty series. Must say it was one of the best games, i had lots of hours of enjoying it. Beautiful graphics, challenging and tactical combats, lots of strategies and new ideas to test.

FE shines in its idea itself: conquer the world first then fight your oponents. But i feel a little of failure in the second part because of many AI problems, however i have a hope that they wont let it be like this and some things will be made better. For me this game is definatelly successfull , but it need just a bit of more attention to become polished and shiny ;) I think thats the reason why is it getting 4/5 instead of 5/5. Everyone uderstands that it canot be perfect on 1.0 so lets wait and see.

Hey, I'm playing a similar game, I couldn't buy a brand new game for a year, I can buy things that are on sale or some cheap DLC, but that has been it.  Saving for my wedding, but thank god, it's almost over, getting married in a month.  It will be nice to be married and all, but being able to buy a bunch of games I have been waiting for will be even better, as long as I don't blow too much money in Vegas.

Also, consider how different things are after FE's release than they were at WoMs release.  Massive difference. The forums back then were exploding with legitimate complaints, vile rants, asking for refunds, and it didn't go away for months.  What do we have with FE, a pretty general recognition that the game is good, a few minor bugs here and there being reported, and some balance ideas being batted around, even the complaints are pretty mild or an issue of preference.  It's been nice.

Just curious, where is this top list of games? Checking the 'stats' tab on Steam doesn't show FE.

On the Store page below the slides there are a series of tabs and Top Sellers is one of them. Fallen Enchantress was at #30 when I checked last night.

They are playing - but are they enjoying?

Random thought i think fits best in this thread...

To engage more of the core TBS crowd, i think a mod ala Civilization but with E:FE's unique features, would interest a bunch of folk whom the fantasy genre did not. i've friends who never did buy E:WOM but who are highly 4x TBS motivated.  Fantasy wasn't for them, but tactical battles and an in-game playable civ leader intrigued them. Among other things. Now with E:FE, the time might be right for Brad to get back into modding a little bit. Doing some things with the faithful crowd here. Pumping up excitement for modding. Creting stuff for people to gossip about. Stuff that illustrates the scope of this games mod'ability. And stuff which demonstrates SD's direct involvement with the users of its software. i think there are still loads of TBS'rs who haven't given the game a go yet.

Yes, this forum has less people bashing FE then 2k forums have people bashing xcom. And all the people bashing Bioware on DA2 or ME3 forums..
