duplicate champions (bad thing??)

I'd like to find a way to get back to my old game, without duplicating my champions. Everytime I try to restore my last save, I return to a game where my heros have duplicated themselves. This is great if you like an unbalanced game, but I can't play the game like this. Also I have so many multiples of heros that my main hero doesn't even have a chance to battle. Before a battle is even started he somehow dies, I then defeat the enemies, gain some bad attributes and become frustrated. Then from here if I were to restart from a past save I would load a past game and then return to even more duplicated champions (duplicated items too... if you like to "cheat") What is going on?

This happened to my in the Campaing, 2nd map.

I had the main hero, the priest from the temple and the murderer-type fighter. After reloading in the middle of the map the other 2 heroes (but not my souvereign) were cloned. After reloading an older save they cloned AGAIN, so there were 3 of them.

I didn't restart the game and then loaded the campaign savegame yet. This hasn't happened in a regular sandbox game yet (and I have played quite a bit of that).

Same thing just happened to me too, bummer, game ruined. None of my past saves work anymore.
