[1.0] Cannot Launch in Windows 8

from Elemental Forums

The game freezes on loading when launched in Windows 8.

Anyone else having this problem?

 

Windows 8 Professional 64 Bit, on i7-3960k.

Same problem just got the game from Steam and it will not lauch under Windows 8 all other's games working..

What video and sound card are you guys using?

I am using the 310.03 Beta Driver for Nvidia GTX 680, and Asus Phebeous(so) Souncard with Win8 Driver.

I am using ATI 6990, with the latest beta Catalyst drivers. Sound is Creative X-Fi. Using the Stardock version of the game, I didn't even re-install after putting a clean Win 8 on, just ran the .exe from its old folder. Do you have DirectX 9c and Visual C++ runtimes installed as well?

Launched on my Windows 8 test system just fine, i7-860, 12GB RAM, GeForce 560Ti, release nVidia drivers, Stardock version.

One thing is to maybe try rolling back the beta drivers. I know the AMD drivers have some known bugs (not with Elemental just in general) and who knows maybe the nVidia ones do to. I'd give the release drivers a shot and see what happens.

I just rolled back to the WHQL Driver and the game still does not launch.

I already have DirectX and Visual C++ from other games (Steam).

So far Fallen Enchantress is the only game that doesn't launch in Win 8.

Is there a log file I can look at to see why the game is having such issues?

Their is a debug file.  They list how to find the file in step 2 of the post "How to report an Issue" :

My current attempt at launching the game didn't generate any dumps, there are none dated today.  Those 2 are the only ones I found and seems to be the crash on the very first time - after I verified the Activation with Stardock.
