Stupid Question About Cartographer

A Stupid Question

Don't know if this is the correct place to post this so if it is not move it or delete it xD
Anyways you know how some tiles have the grain thingy, production thingy and essence (Yeah I have no idea what this is even called) which you usually build on for your town to be better? Well I have absolutely no idea how to add that. I think I wasted at least 4 hours in cartographer trying to find out how. Clicked just about everything. So is it even possible to add it to the map or not? Id probably look harder but I guess at this point I already know the GUI by heart and could probably operate it why my eyes closed xD
Sorry for the stupid question. Its probably some super obvious and I have been completely missing it...

I believe you are referring to the tile's grain/material/essence amounts, and I didn't see any way to change those either.  Perhaps try directly editing the XML?

This probably belongs in the modding section but I would also like to know the answer to this. I also have spent a lot of time in the map builder tool trying to figure out how to add the essence, grain and material resources to a tile so that it can be settled. One thing's for sure, you cannot do it using the GUI tools provided. The only thing I can think of is that it is some undocumented key/mouse combination.

How the heck are we supposed to figure this stuff out? Why release tools that don't document how to do important stuff like this? It's very frustrating to spend this much time on things like this and not be able to figure it out.

I think those values are calculated automatically based on the surrounding terrain. The problem is the editor doesn't update the display promptly (or ever, sometimes), so it's not terribly obvious.

From what I've been able to determine, if you place flat land with either the kingdom or fallen environment (so it's either green grass or that purple stuff), and it's a big enough area, you get 4 wheat/2 prod. Add a forest, and the edges get 3/3 and a little further into the forest gets 2/4.

Crystal deposits and shards give essence in the 8 tiles around them (which stacks, if they're close enough). I've never seen this show up in the editor though, only by placing them and starting a game.

The production resources like clay pits seem to give a +1 prod bonus to the surrounding 8 tiles.

I don't think there's any way to set this manually, even if you edit the map by hand (didn't see anything in the XML that looked promising).
