Say what you will, the game looks beautiful

This is the artwork and graphics appreciation thread.

Despite much criticism, I find the game's art and stylized graphics to be very pleasing, and atmosphere-enhancing. Especially the new color scheme of bright, contrast colors on black background, it really helps to create a mood of mystery and anticipation. I hope other games will continue in similar style. I admit I liked the cell shaded games' like XIII and borderlands  style too.

That said, I am not that happy about the combat animations, but in a game like this, they are quite irrelevant to the gaming experience.

Big respect for the art and design team!

I always enjoy posts like this, and I am sure the developing team is too!

End of quote

I think the art is fantastic, especially because you see the armour on the units, on the overland map, in tactical battles you notice people equipped with an axe is actually wearing an axe, and meanwhile the items are so interchangable.

The only thing I wish be slightly better is the sovereign faces, and some specific armour pieces.
But I'm a critic at heart, I always find a wrong for each right.

I like it, and I also like the fact as is pointed out here; what you see persons are wearing is what they are wearing.

Other positive bi-effects of the graphics is that it is eay to grasp the world arround you, not like Heroes of M and M 5 for instance where you could have a hard time seeing things behind a tree for instance. This kind of mapstyle is also easier to make a good map generator for it seems. Generated maps works incredibly well, and adds alot to replayability.

I find the artwork well done, but the coloring is monotonous, and the sovereign/race characters you can create have caricature faces that are more like masks than anything else.  Mind, this is just my opinion, but if you're going to title a thread, "Say what you will, the game looks beautiful," and imply that the visuals are beyond criticism, you're going to get criticisms back.
