Can't change my character background story.

Not sure why this won't work, maybe I'm missing something obvious, but everytime I try to write in my own custom background story, at the start of the game, it still gives me the generic miner one. The hell....

And since we are on the topic, give me your thoughts on this background story I wrote up. (it borrows a bit from the miner story actually). I tried to fit it to my custom faction's story (United Kingdoms of Anthys, flag is the white eagle with the red bottom and blue top, I think you know where I was going with this) and my characters actual occupation I chose (armorer)

Orphaned by a war long forgotten, Redin was placed under the care of a blacksmith's family. Under the tutelage of his foster father, Redin apprenticed as an armorer. He eventually came to care for his foster family, and gained the respect of his peers as an accomplished blacksmith. He spent most of his days toiling in the forge, and his nights staring up at the stars. He led a humble life, boring at times, but satisfying... until that fateful day when a traveling wizard visited his small town. The wizard commissioned Redin to craft a peculiar item, a crown bearing the sigil of an eagle. Upon completion of the crown, the wizard hid it under his cloak, whispered an incantation, and fixed a crystal shard to the helm as if being grasped by the eagle's talons. The wizard offered the crown to Redin, and placed it on his head. Redin's mind was engulfed with visions of the future and what would come to pass should the Kingdoms of men faulter. Inspired with this revelation, Redin dedicated his life to joining the warring Kingdoms under one banner to combat the brewing darkness that threatened not only Anthys, but the whole of Elemental.

And that is the gist of it, please leave comments, I'm trying to fine tune it, but it seems rather moot at this point if I can't get the game to save it >_>

Interesting Post!  I really enjoy creating Custom Sovereigns and Custom Factions; and I really enjoy thinking up, and writing down, the Back-stories for Sovereigns and Factions.   (I have created back-stories for a Viking race, an Oz-like kingdom (complete with "Dorothy" as ruler), a modified Altar, a modifed Resoln led by a male oracle,  and a race of humans that are totally swept up in a culture steeped in cavalry tactics.)  This sort of exercise is fun for me ...

So, I am disappointed to read your report that the back-stories are (once again!) not being captured by the program.  This issue has ocurred, disappeared, and then re-occured more than once in the course of the 5 main Betas and 8-10 more interim updates, of the last six months.  I don't know why they can't fix this, and keep it fixed!   (For now I am playing the campaign, but I was looking forward to a customized game this week-end.)    :\

I think your back-story looks fitting and interesting.  I like writing back-stories that finish with a strong last sentence - sometimes standing alone as a one sentence paragraph.  You might do that with your concluding sentence, and substitute "uniting" for "joining", and substitute "gathering darkness" for "brewing darkness" -- but those are just my personal preferences ...

Sure hope they get this issue fixed soon!

I appreciate your post!

I find myself in a similiar position, I LOVE designing my own back stories, when I heard you could customize your faction/heroes/ect it was actually a pretty big draw for me. I'm sad and yet relieved that this is a known issue, unfortunate for those who are running into this problem, but at least I know it isn't just me :P

And I like your suggestions, think I'll take you up on them.

Yep, I've had the same thing happen to me.

It was really annoying too, because I spent a good 10-15 minutes thinking up this intricate backstory on the fly for my custom noble sovereign. I was wondering if it didn't stick because I clicked "save" instead of "next". In hindsight I should have typed it up in word beforehand and copy/pasted it.

Alas my story about Lady Luna's father getting murdered by a fallen magician and her quest for revenge resulting in her realizing her channeling ability is lost forever :-(

I found that even though the starting screen didn't show the customised biography, when you look at the Sov is does show the customised bio.  So that might be a place to look for other folks, at least we can narrow down the problem of when the customised bios don't "stick".

^Thanks, I just checked it and sure enough there is my cheesy story. I guess it's not as big a problem as I thought then.
