Is the AI and gameplay comparable to Gal Civ 2??

So I read on the FE Steam Forum that the AI expands way too fast. (way more cities and outposts compared to the player)

This type of AI behaviour reminds me a lot of the Gal Civ 2 AI...

The more I read stuff about the game the more I get the idea that this is Gal Civ 2 in a fantasy world + rpg elements....?

Please tell me there's more to this??

Btw, I enjoyed Gal Civ 2 but it lacked an addictive element and the combat was uninspiring to me.

The very basic elements you've described are shared between the two games, but then, you've defined features that are so broad they're shared among a host of very different games.

FE has tactical battles where you control all the actions of each member of your stack.  There's nothing to approach the diversity of spells and spell effects in the GC series' technology researches. There's nothing to approach the individuality of the champions you find, and develop in battle.  There's nothing in the GC games like the quest system in FE.  Or the many Wildlands challenges and bosses.

I actually prefer GC's diplomacy at this point, but that's because they wanted to get FE out the door in time for holiday sales.  I suspect it will be as good as GC2's in a few months, and--just my opinion--probably end up surpassing it.  Because Stardock's investing their lifeblood in this game.

I felt the same as you regarding GalCiv, and there is definitely a GalCiv vibe going here.  However, in my opinion I think the RPG elements help give this game more personality.

And regarding expansion - yeah.  I'd rather play at a more leisurely pace than have to rush pioneers.  I want to explore the world, not drop settlers everywhere before the AI does the same.  I would love to see fewer cities overall with intelligent city placement by the AI.  But ever since ICS became a "strategy" in the Civ series, it seems like that's what passes for good gameplay by the AI.
